What the older people complaining miss is that this connects to younger people.

they'll never ever grasp this. "he is no role model, because he's not appealing directly to me as a 50 year old man with the sort of things i'm interested in hearing."

100% support Cam and his efforts to reach out to the youth in a way that will speak to them.

The one thing that would be refreshing though from a lot of athletes (and hell, parents, teachers, etc.) is the realization that 99.9% of people just don't have the talent to make it in pro sports regardless of the amount of time, effort, and dedication they put to it. You have to have a certain baseline talent to make it. This crap of telling our kids that "you can be anything you want to be" is a just that - crap. Sorry, my 5'10" above average athletic (compared to other average Joes) ass wasn't going pro in any sport no matter what. Don't feed these kids a line that they can do it if they just put everything into it. Cater to your own strengths. It's okay to have hobbies on the side, but you gotta make a living too.

My lord man...

By this logic I guess there’s no point in putting your kids (if you have or ever have any) in sports. What’s the point? They’re not going to be professional athletes. Hell, there’s no point in signing your kids up for anything they’re not going be able to make a living from. I guess just let them rot away on the couch until they turn 18 or so and can start really thinking about what they want to do for a living. By this point they’ll be so socially awkward from being sheltered their entire lives that your hope should be that they’re able to get through an interview anywhere doing anything.

Before you get all defensive the key word is “kids”. It’s not until your 16ish that you need to have an idea of what you want to do in life. At 16, yes THEN you can sit down and be realistic about their future. But by all means, tell your “kid” from day 1 what his limitations are when there is absolutely no reason to. Let me know how that works out for you. Sports and other activities are very important because it builds character, allows your kid to interact with other kids and most importantly gets them active.

Cam isn’t saying you need to be a pro athlete. He’s saying find something and do it! Him coming on IG and showing these kids he’s putting in the work is just to show them that nothing in life is easy and that whatever it is you’re trying to accomplish you’ll need to put in the work. Some of you are really trying your best to turn this any which way you can back around on Cam. It’s sad.

Take a break from this topic for a bit.

Is that what I actually said or is that just what you wanted to read? I guess you missed the part about it being okay to have hobbies.

My point is that if you fill kids heads full of hopes and dreams about pro sports and they put all of their eggs in that basket then there's a near certainty that their basket is going to come up empty. There's way too many kids already who have unrealistic dreams of being a pro athlete. There's a HUGE difference between being a good high school player and being pro material. Even elite recruits oftentimes don't make it. They have injuries or maybe they even become good college players but they just don't translate to the pro level. You gotta have a plan B.

That's my point. Don't fill kids' heads with unrealistic ideas and try to keep them grounded. You can't be anything you want. That's just the cold hard truth. Hard work and dedication isn't all that it takes.

Yep it was, either learn how to get your point across better or stop trying. When you use “okay” and “but” in the same sentence as hobbies it sure doesn’t make it seem like you think it’s all that great of an idea.

I don’t think the majority of parents are expecting their kids to turn into professional atheltes but if their kid wants to talk about playing in the NFL or whichever league when he’s a kid, there’s no harm in that.

Again, Cam isn’t saying you need to be a professional athlete. He is saying find something positive and get good at it!

Dude quit worrying about how people write poo on here. It's a damn forum and people just type fast and might not get their point out that great. Damn go be a damn teacher or professor. All you worry about is how people write a post and not about the topic. If you don't have something smart to say then keep your mouth shut!

Lol the resident idiot had to chime in.

If you’re an adult and you can’t figure out how to get your point across then it’s probably time you take a look in the mirror instead of blaming it on...”typing fast”. That excuse obviously still works for you but guys like LG, nope.
