Should Jerry's statue stay?

Well? Should the JR statue stay?

Definite YES, but move it to the player/employee entrance to serve as a reminder of how fast it can crumble through inappropriate actions. Put a Hardy statue right beside it if you want.

I say it stays.  The issues of his ouster will wear off and hopefully people remember that this man loved the Carolina's and wanted to be the league to them.

He delivered a franchise that aren't easy to come by.

What he did was wrong and I don't condone it but he united the Carolina's like no one else could.

It amazes me at how many forget what he did for us.  Too many that weren't around before we had a team.

I can seperate the bad stuff he did, from my gratitude for bringing NFL football to the Carolinas which is what the statue was meant to commemerate.

You're not an assault / domestic violence / harassment victim.

To anyone that wants the statue to stay up, here's the argument I need you to make for me: Why should women who have been victims of things like or similar to what Jerry Richardson did have to look at that statue when they go to BOA?

Understand that, just speaking for myself.

I completely understand the gravity of what he did, but I don't think it erases any of the good he did and I'm personally grateful to have an NFL team in Charlotte to root for. One of his accusers acknowledged she has seen him change lives with his generosity.

In the end, JR is like the rest of us... complicated.

If they ultimately decide to take it down, I'll understand why.

easy question.  It should come down.

You don't make a big production over it.  Set up a random midnight takedown.   Issue a simple statement when the media asks about it.  You can still think Jerry for what he did for the franchise/city.   You can thank him for what he did professionally and thank him....and still say in light of events surrounding his exit, a statue of him however no longer seems appropriate outside of the facility.

Then if asked anything further.  Panthers say, they have nothing further to add and repeat that until the cows come home.

Harvey Weinstein, Jeffrey Jones and Bill Cosby are complicated people too.

None of them deserve to have the public only "focus on the positives" of their lives. They've brought scorn on themselves, and they deserve it.

So does Richardson, and it's worth remembering that this is not a victimless crime. There are people Richardson hurt very deeply.

The team doesn't need to have someone like that be part of their image, especially not for female fans.

That statue needs to go, immediately.

    • If there's another QB that came to the combine after packing on 15 lbs of water weight to hide his playing weight, I don't remember it.  I understand it's all part of the pre-draft game, and he participated. The FO was stupid and ignored huge red flags.  On a side note though, I was at the airport a few weeks ago and saw a basketball team going through and decided to try and look through them. I'm 6'2 and these guys were 6'6 and up. I was amazed by how much I couldn't see around them. And these guys weren't 300 plus in pads. I still think he's having a hell of a time seeing the field at the NFL speed.
    • There is merit to the points you're making here. On the flip side one could argue it took us investing 150 million in the oline for him to have a breakout season. And he has still yet to hit 1k rushing yards in a season. As far as Brooks goes the position does not require that significant of a draft investment for many other teams. That's not being negative it's just a matter of fact. The 49ers did quite well with a UDFA running back while McCaffrey was out. It is understandable that some people have concerns. That being said it boils down to whether or not you believe in the player. We just have to see what happens with him and Brooks.
    • Okay, that day in Vegas had to embarrass him completely. Andy showed him how to do the job.  What I think when I go there, why did it take Andy? He has had game after game of watching actual NFL QBs work and that didn't do it?  Anyhow Andy did not mess around, he stood in there and did his job and got rid of the ball ahead of the pressure. Down the field. With the same players Bryce had. Night and day.  If that didn't wake him up nothing ever would. But I don't think he has any sort of top NFL QB in him, he just lacks the full tool kit.
