What a HOMER

No, not really. I've already said that Shaq has been a bit of a disappointment for a 1st round draft pick, but that in and of itself doesn't make him an outright bust.

Only a moron tries to use one play (a play where the player makes the right read and is in the right place but just wasn't able to get the ball carrier stopped before the goalline) to try to show that a player sucks. The thing about highlights is that there's someone else on the other side looking bad. Every player in the NFL ends up on the wrong side of a highlight every now and then. It's just the nature of the beast.

No one other than TD himself would have expected him to keep playing at the caliber he has for so long. Because we rely so heavily on our linebackers, my thought when he was drafted was one season behind TD to learn, 2nd season splitting snaps as TDs decline begins, 3rd season full time starter with TD as backup. He's not a bust, he just hasn't been given a full opportunity because of the Carolina legend that is TD.

He was the 25th pick in his draft.  I was expecting more from him.  Playing time shouldn't be the problem for a number 1 pick. He's played 4 yrs,  167 tackles ,  3 sacks.  I won't say he's a bust, but he's not close to being an all pro.

J D Moore was drafted this year at 24,,  if his production is comparable to Thompson, I'll be very disappointed in him.

Having him play behind TD has hindered him, but when he's been in, I don't see the  " as advertised " play out of him.

Not every first round pick is gonna be a super star elite level player, that doesn't make him a bust either.

Chris Gamble, Jordan Gross, Stew all fit that mold for of guys that were firsts, but really good starters for us.

Shaq seems to be in line with that too.

On top of all that, base 4-3 LBs is less and less common. It's more like 5-2-5 at this point. Shaq is behind Luke and TD. He should get more playing time this year with TD (hopefully) take a decreased role.

A bit? He’s been nothing but a disappointment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can make an argument that he was overdrafted. But you cannot make an argument that he's been "nothing but a disappointment," without looking like a football ignoramous.

PS. I left off all the exclamation points, Veronica.

Eh... I think that people have different expectations of him.

Some believe that based on being a first round pick, that he needs to be able to contribute right away.

When Ron first came to the team, there was an interview he put out talking about how typically it takes 3yrs to see what kind of pro a player will be (5yrs for QBs). Gettleman also said that when they drafted him, they wanted to make sure that they had somebody ready to go in case TD went down (a valid concern).

I'm looking at the players taken between Shaq and Funchess, and I'm seeing only Landon Collins who I had already wanted instead. Am I butthurt that we got Shaq instead? Nah... I liked Byron Jones a lot as well, and I could see an argument for Damarious Randall.

With that in mind, I'm not mad about the pick at all. Especially since we went to the Super Bowl during his rookie season.
