Panthers played more zone defense than any NFL team last year

Yes.  Letting Norman, and most of the secondary walk is looking like one of the worst decisions Gman made.  We're still trying to clean up that mess.

I don't blame Gettleman for not giving Norman top tier CB money. I just don't think you can afford to pay a zone CB like he's an elite man cover guy. Teams can scheme to avoid a zone guy. Remember that crazy comeback the Giants nearly pulled off against us in 2015? A big part of that was them moving OBJ into the slot to avoid Norman. Those elite man cover guys are going to follow your #1 WR everywhere he goes. That's why they get paid what they do.

I DO blame Gettleman for jerking the tag after all the decent free agent options were already off the table. That left us in a situation where we were forced to just throw draft picks at the position and hope for the best. That ended predictably. Only one of those three draft picks will be on our roster this year and quite possibly, only one will be on an NFL roster at all. Worley is on thin ice after sucking it up on the field his entire career and then having that DUI/firearm incident this off-season.

That stunt didn't just negatively impact our roster, but I think it also had a very real and very negative impact on our locker room morale.

And coming off a playoff appearance despite multiple injuries and set up to contend this year again. Would you feel better if we went 7-9? Because that the difference, at most. Unless Josh is as going to about 3 OL positions he wasn’t taking us to the playoffs. And we lose KK. A lot more at play than cutting one  CB on a team that plays 80% zone.

I bet the team that signed Josh would trade places with us in a heartbeat

Uhh, Gman put the tag on Norman with every intention of keeping KK.  That wasn't an either-or scenerio....even Gman thought so.

We did not spend the 14 mill we saved on Josh on the line in 2016.

As for whether we would have gone to the playoffs in 2016 with Norman, who knows, but turnovers play a big difference in a game, Worely had 0 in 2016.

Who said that we put 14M in to the OL? The OL was in shambles from injuries. There was nothing that could have been done. Cam was beat up, then really got hurt  . Luke got hurt. But I’m sure one overpaid CB would have won us an extra 5 games by himself. Sure...go with that.

Locker room dynamics and overall team morale/confidence plays a huge role. Gettleman yanking the tag out from under Norman with no backup plans really kicked all of those factors right in the dick. A big part of why Cam took such a beating (other than the OL sucking and Shula's playcalling hanging him out to dry) was that our secondary's nearly complete inability to so much as slow the opposing offense down meant that we were forced into a lot more obvious passing situations than usual.

And that is an opinion that can’t be proven. It’s possible. It’s also just as possible that Norman, who is unstable on a good day, being a huge distraction while complaining about his contract. I doubt Kurt Coleman and Michael Oher were too unhappy about it when signing new contracts. They’re professionals. Just because you or I felt that way doesn’t mean the players do.

Yeah, his former teammates seemed super pissed...

I think everyone remembers the comments. I just don’t subscribe to the theory that cutting Norman led to every problem the team has. And now to include Cam’s injuries. Players reacted the same way when KB was traded. Why didn’t they fall apart last year?

Every problem? No. No one has claimed that either.

What can be proven is WE ARE STILL REBUILDING OUR SECONDARY 3 YEARS LATER.

Norman, Bradberry would have been a great one two punch.  Instead we suffered through 2 years of Worely and we're still trying to figure who our number two should be when our primary corner should be a number two.

You can piss and whine about "how many games would he really have helped us win" , when the reality is, we lost a lot of close games and replacing Worely, WHO WAS ASS, with Norman could very well have been the difference.

Gman is that you?   Shouldn't you be focused on the Giants now?

You wouldn’t think so? But I heard today that.....

Now, it seems nothing is off the table.

Just messing with you. On to something relevant to our current secondary, and would like to hear some opinions on. We are about 2 weeks away from the Supplemental Draft. All 3 players should draw a certain level of interest from us with our current needs. Can the ACC and Homie fans help out on Alexander. He’s the only one who has worked out and it was underwhelming. What is the proper risk?

“A big part” doesn’t mean it was the sole factor, as I acknowledged in that post.

Everything in football is interconnected. Everyone lauded the improvement of the Cowboys’ defense in ‘16 jumping from middle of the pack to top 5, but a HUGE part of that defensive “improvement” was the arrival of Prescott and Elliott vaulting their offense from second to last in the league to a top 5 offense. They were able to put up points and control the clock on offense where previously that D was getting left out on the field and hung out to dry. It was honestly impressive that they had a middle of the road defense (I think it was #16) with the #31 offense consistently putting them in terrible situations.

And we are back to giving 5/75M to a zone CB. And letting  KK go. He could have kept him one year, which was the plan, but there was no way we were paying him that long term.

Only one of us is “pissing and whining” about anything. I just presented facts. Your whole argument is basically “cause I said so”. And of course the G-man fallback option. Which simply translates to “he cut my fav player and I ran out of logic and reasoning for my agenda”. Well done.
