Dexter: Season 4 (spoilers)

I think Showtime will ride this show as long as people are watching it.

I agree that they will want to. The reason I'm not expecting anything further is because of article quotes. Things can always change, but last year when they extended it from 3 to 5, Michael C. Hall was asked about how long it could go. You could tell he was dancing around saying 5 was enough for him.

He brought up how 5 seasons was perfect for Six Feet Under. He mentioned that he wanted to do other things, but it looks like he's managed to accomplish that anyways. He's made 2 movies so far and a 3rd one is being worked on.

What bothered me was that he said he's uncomfortable playing Dexter because he gets so emotionally involved with it. He said it feels like he's Dexter for the entire year. He even stalked people and followed them home during the first seasons.

That was all in response to that simple question. He could have just said that he didn't know. He even seemed to doubt the writers could keep it going much longer because the show was never meant to be about a simple kill each week. We'll see, hopefully he regrets saying all of that.

I can see why playing a character like Dexter for years can have a toll on your psychological state.

But at the same time, I don't see how an actor can just walk away from that role either, especially when the writing is so strong. You can't find material like that anywhere else on television, or in theatrical releases.

I'll go crazy the next week thinking of the possibilities, but one that I haven't seen anyone discuss...

...Could Trinity be gearing up to frame Dexter as the person that killed the body shown in the end of episode previews?

All I know is next week's episode is called "The Getaway".

Deb could die. Cody could die. Angel could die. Dexter gets busted. Trinity gets away.

I've seen all of these tossed around on the web, and I doubt any of them are true.

Does Deb catch Dex in the act of cutting into Arthur Mitchell? That's what I'm hoping for.

I didn't necessarily mean that MCH was going to walk away, only that he seemed content with the 2-year extension after season 3. He'd probably stay on board even if he wasn't crazy about it. The show is doing great and he gets to work with his wife (Deb) on set.

Yeah, Trinity might be framing Dex. I wouldn't be surprised if Deb finds out the truth about Dex and has to kill Trinity herself.

Well, in next weeks spoiler, there's a flash of Dex getting Arthur in the neck with a syringe.

Yeah, so Dex at least gets that far.

Lithgow was on TV recently promoting the show and he said the only spoiler he'll give is that the episode is called "The Getaway" with a creepy face. I've never given much thought to him getting away, but anything seems possible at this point.

Based on some cast quotes, I think we're losing another cast member.

Hate to admit it, but the advertising hype machine is definitely working on me with all these hints that can't be trusted. I'm starting to wonder if it can even live up to it.

Show is great. 2nd best season they've had, MAYBE first depending on this final episode. Not many shows make a 4th season better than the 3rd. Lithgow is the best killer they've had, close to his brother, but Lithgow is just above and beyond. I think he'll get away, he's smart.

Dexter is becoming stupid. Falling for that arcade trick was a bad move. I seen it a mile away. He should have too. Trinity is smart, maybe smarter than Dexter, so you'd figure he had a trick up his sleeve.

What a great episode, when Dexter was listening to that voicemail I was thinking, 'this is it?'', and then he finds Rita in the tub.

Next season has so many different story lines that could be run that it's ridiculous. I found it interesting that Michael C. Hall mentioned in the interview that Dexter with vengance on his side may operate with less boundries. If he doesn't have the kids I could definetly see that.

All in all, a great season, probably my favorite of the series.

Some other notes of mine that involve next season:

-Batista saw Dexter talking to Trinity in the station in the previous episode, maybe he looks back on this?

-Will the Mitchell Family gets curious about 'Kyle Butler'?

-Is Quinn being set up as the Doakes of season 5?

I really didn't care much for Rita, but that last scene was really sad. I just hope they didn't paint themselves into a corner with this one. Clyde Phillips said the decision to kill Rita was a late one, and they don't start brainstorming the next season until February, but I have faith in them.

Dexter also has some serious explaining to do next season. Why would trinity break his cycle and kill his wife? Also, him being at the scene early was suspicious.

Next season will be the darkest one yet IMO.
