Extension for Williams not even close

Daryl Williams needs to prove next season this year wasn’t a fluke. I largely think Daryl is overrated and not deserving of an all-pro spot, and believe trading him would be best for us in value.

Nevertheless, we’ll see.

There’s a reasonable argument for wanting to see more than 1 season of great play but there’s really no reasonable argument that he’s overrated or that last year was a fluke. He dominated all year. If anything he’s underrated by most—didn’t even make pro bowl and nobody mentions him when talking about OTs.

There's a reason Trai's play suffered at RG last season.

Because Kalil was on IR.

Even if you want to argue that’s Williams is overrated, he is unquestionably the best RT we’ve had in a long time. That’s not saying much considering the other guys we’ve trotted out there at RT, but still. Williams in no way, shape, or form negatively impacted Trai’s play.

In today's NFL RT is as important as LT.  Teams are changing their rushing philosophies and not pressuring the LT as much as years past. They've switched it up and are coming straight at that RT.  In the Saints wild card game Williams was worked bad. Kalil didn't give a single sack and only a couple if pressures.  Cam Jordan moved to the right side and worked Williams.

I don't think he's a bad RT but he's not top money worthy either.

Guys guys guys you know what helps shaky OT situation .

It’s funny to see how quickly opinions sway based on most recent news.

News breaks that extending Williams is a top priority this offseason and everyone is excited about locking up a young elite RT long term. News breaks hat the two sides aren’t necessarily close and now everyone wants to act like Williams is overrated and last year was just a fluke for him. LOL!

The reality is that this was never going to be an easy negotiation and the Panthers have the most leverage. Williams is coming off an All-Pro season so of course his representatives will push for top dollar. They’re probably opening negotiations from a perspective of making Williams the top paid RT in the NFL. They’d be doing their client a disservice if they didn’t. Especially given Hurney’s past tendencies to overpay. The Panthers on the other hand have him under contract for another year. They don’t NEED to get anything done right now. This only needs to get done if Williams is willing to pass in the opportunity for max dollars in order to gain the security of getting a long term deal with significant guarantees done now. If he wants top dollar he’ll have to play another year and repeat last season’s success. Even then, the Panthers will retain the leverage of having the ability to tag him if necessary.

So he gave up a sack to one of the best defensive ends in the league. Shocking.

This was the exact statement the video was posted to contradict. I would say it did that very well, which means that nothing said by this person has any credibility. Both statements were flat out false.

Not too mention he asked for it. Sorry I had proof to back up my statement. You should try it sometime.

Both are in the final year of their contracts. So no, it doesn't make any difference if they retire.

But it does. We'll be replacing them with cheaper players, so it DOES free up cap space.
