Dwight Howard Traded!

I said it early last season...  Kemba had the same demeanor when Lance was here.  He was miserable and Dwight was sucking the life out of the team.

I get that but I didn't get the sense that Dwight Howard was a cancer in the lockeroom or showed anything that would lead you to believe he was the same as in the past...from the outside looking in he seemed to be the ideal teammate for the Hornets.  He did his job, had some really good games, and I didn't see him try to take the shine from anyone...nor any articles or critiques that would point to his behavior as similar to his pat.  But that's just me looking from the outside and not knowing anything other than that.

It's been discuss ed d quite a bit here and other places, but people were able to decipher a lot of the team's exit interview comments as Dwight changing the team dynamics...  a lot of allusions to being selfish and having an individual agenda, while Dwight made no such comments himself about anyone else, because it was him they were referring to.  I also posted earlier in the season how in some games he repeatedly would start throwing tantrums in-game when he didn't get the ball in the half-court and the next defensive rebound he got, he would take it and dribble it all the way across half-court and then pass it to someone or take a shot himself unassisted, all while Kemba called for the outlet the entire time.  He did that repeatedly through the all-star break, and supposedly it was in retaliation for not getting the touches he wanted.  Supposedly, people have said it was because he wanted the offense ran through him in the half-court...  if we did so, all was good.  If we didn't, he would pull shot like I mentioned until he got his touches.  I could see how that would piss everyone off.  He also got into an argument with Clifford during a game that I posted about last season and was benched following the timeout it happened in.  He was demonstrative and got up and walked out of the huddle while Clifford had everyone in close to draw up a play...  I had never seen anything like it, in Charlotte at least, in all my years as a Charlotte fan, which has been since the beginning.

See that's what I'm saying...I just don't get into the team that close...rely mostly on what's in the news...and let's face it the Hornets don';t draw ANY national attention so if there were problems with Howard then I never would hear about it.  I never knew any of that...I don't just check this forum either. Ok, it's my fault, my bad.

Fact: Dwight had a good statistical year.

Fact: Dwight stagnated offense

Fact: Dwight was horrible on pick and roll

Fact: Dwight is struggling with the new 5 out league

Opinion: Dwight was trouble in the locker room

* Now I do hate that we just didn't just keep him and free up $23m next year. We get an extra year of $16m. This move sounds like the opposite of tanking. We are trying to free up space to sign a veteran backup PG possibly. Now, if we trade Kemba than yes tanking is a possibility and the only reason to get rid of Howard is so that he doesn't "corrupt" young players...

Nah, it's not your fault...  you shouldn't have to rely on forums for all of your news...  the problem is, Bobcats/Hornets coverage is among the worst in the entire sphere of pro sports.  We as fans are left to piece together what we can...  it's also why these local heads chiming in after the fact pisses me off.  Like, if they knew this stuff was going on, why weren't they reporting it all along, while it was happening?  Keep us informed!  It's easy for anyone to say, "I knew this was true," after the fact, and that seems to be all out local guys do after a national outlet breaks news on the team before them.

I even mentioned it here when discussing that Dwight/Clifford blow up, that local media never made one peep about it.  It wasnt even mentioned or discussed at all.  I didnt even hear Clifford asked about it in that post-game presser immediately after...  I just saw it happen with my own eyes and even the broadcast team ignored it as it happened...  and it was even caught on camera in the huddle as Stephanie Ready was providing a sideline report lol.  It was pathetic.  Idk if they were scared of the PR-side of things and worried about their image, so they thought ignoring it was the better route, but it wasn't...  it just leaves us to speculate even more so.

Could also have something to do with our beat writer being a habitual drunk too, lol.

What if you plan on tanking for 2 years?  Does the move make more sense then?

The word is, one of the guys we enamored with at 11 is SGA from Kentucky.  If we get him, the backup/big PG spot wont cost anything.  I think that hinges on if Knox is there at 11...  then again, if we get #8, I'm starting to think it is to take Knox then SGA at 11.

So, we traded a good player in part because a bunch of shitty players didn't like him?  Nice.

No we traded him because of tax reasons, MJ dont want to pay Lux tax. Cant afford to do that in a small market especially when the team isn't a playoff team with a chance of reaching the ECF or the finals.

So if Kemba doesn't like Dwight but we are hell bent on trading Kemba anyway... Why not just ship him to Cleveland and keep Dwight's expiring.

Now it appears we are losing are best player and our best contract for Mozgov and whatever other garbage we get.

Keeping Dwight means you have to hope you can get a better deal in the future. Which we could, but that would be smart and this team is not smart enough to even be dumb.

That said, this opens up cash for this offseason. I can't wait til we take on salary in the Kemba trade too and use No. 8 to pick Robert Williams.

I guess what I'm saying is, fug the NBA. I'll follow hockey before I follow this mess anymore.

I think Kemba is as good as gone too. Package with Batum.

Having a young rookie HC, this is the time to start all over.

Monk and Hernangomez are players already on the team to build the future with. If we do get the Cavs 8th pick for Kemba and with our 11th, that’s two more young players to add to the future.

We wont win many games next season and should be a high lottery team for at least the next two years.

If all this happens and we get 2 young players from Kentucky to pair with monk. Thats a team i would enjoy watching.

    • his height, size and arm will forever cause problems and limitations...that is what it is.  I think to a degree, the law of averages is just coming into play a bit with him.  So as he plays more and more, you just flat out get the decent days mixed in too.  Which is just going to happen.
    • Good point. He's definitely better in 10-15 yards. I think that's his biggest improvement. But he wasn't 3-10 +15, he was 3-7, with at least one drop (minor but still). And with multiple passes at 14 yards completed. This passing chart doesn't look like at By one, lol. He threw more "deep" passes than Mahomes (NOT comparing him to Mahomes in a skill way lol), or at least more beyind 10 yards.
    • Karlaftis and Danna have been pretty inconsistent so teams have been doubling Jones and able to contain their pass rush.   But the good thing is that yesterday, we schemed well against Steve Spags Defense, Canales married the surrounding personnel with his QB through play designs within his comfort zone and was able to get downfield at will.  He was able to execute higher difficulty throws and look a lot more comfortable.  It tells me that Canales has a good system in mind, and had an edge gameplanning wise against Spagnuolo - which is nice to see.  It's a bit to see-saw at times with either going way too pass heavy or way too run heavy, but I think he's finding out what works.  It takes time to have it come together, and sure, I could see regression happen against a better front-7, but this was good for the entire system gelling.
