Our secondary has been trash since we let Norman walk. Our secondary will likely be trash again this year.

I think a lot of people are looking at our secondary and upset because they don't see any stars. And that's cool, I get it, but the NFL is trending away from having that one lock down guy and everything is about matchups. Don't isn't

With Worley and Kurt gone, both guys who were...limited in coverage this past season and hopefully a lot less blitzes our secondary will be a lot stronger. We can mix up our coverages a lot more  with our current group. Ateast on paper, but I don't doubt the talents of Bradberry, Crockrell, Jackson and to an extent, Seymour.

It’s not a concern about t a lack of stars. At least for me it isn’t. It’s about a near complete lack of proven NFL caliber talent in the secondary. It seems like every year we’re trying to patch a secondary together out of draft picks and bargain basement free agents.

Consider that both Hurney and Grettleman put a greater emphasis on pass rushers more than secondary play.

The FA CB market is wonky.  We HAD a very good player in Breeland, but he screwed it all up.  After him, what else was there, really?  The safety market is very odd right now so who really knows what's going on there.

We just have to wait and see (which is VERY anti-Huddle) how things shake out during training camp.

Kind of off topic, but if we can start scoring more consistently,  it will make life easier for our defense and corners.

That might work the other way around too. If we start scoring more it might force teams to throw the ball more putting additional pressure on our secondary. It’s a potential problem I welcome seeing though.

I can’t blame Hurney for that Breeland situation. That guy screwed us.

I’m honestly more frustrated about our safety situation than our CB situation. We’ve at least invested resources at CB. We spent a 2nd on Bradberry and Jackson and a 3rd on Worley. And like you said, we tried to sign a decent FA in Breeland.

Gaulden in the 3rd is probably our highest drafted safety in a decade and it seems like any FA that is going to be offered a contract by any other NFL team is completely off our radar.

Searcy for Coleman isn't a wash. Who the hell is Searcy? Coleman was a veteran that might have fallen off in coverage, but was still a presence. Depending on a third round hybrid safety to "eventually" be our starter is going to cost us games. There needs to be a veteran brought in before camp to learn the system. Our corners being servicable, that would be one, Bradberry. I don't trust Cockrell. That Giants defense was awful. Maybe Jackson steps up, but Michael Thomas, Julio and Evans will tower over him. I fear Jackson is another Captain, except we spent a 2nd on him and not a 7th.

And in top of this they don’t even have a DB coach

brad berry was above average as a rookie and was average last year. In now way does he suck. Expecting a bounce back year here anyways with a less blitz heavy d scheme

lol I wish we did have a player named Brad Berry.

You all are not reading the tea leaves..If Seymour starts...

1. What are Seymour's skills?

2. What does that mean in terms of what we could be doing defensively?

3. If you did not come up with "man coverage" and  "run more man coverage", repeat 1 and 2 until you do.

Dude, I have followed Adams and Searcy for years on and off, and to say they are not "proven NFL caliber talent" is just wrong. Cockrell is definitely NFL worthy.

Adams was a very good safety in his prime. Unfortunately for us, at this point in his career he’s probably slower than every LB on our roster. Searcy has always fit that good backup/marginal starter mold. Unfortunately for us, those are the types of guys we consistently field in our secondary. The Titans went out and got an upgrade in Jonathan Cyprien.

Well the joke is on the Titans because Cyprien has never played up to expectations, and, truthfully, has never been as solid as Searcy.
