My cousin had a similar experience, he was a case worker and took a group of disabled people to see panthers camp, and he stood with people as they were getting things signed and when all his disabled people had gotten their stuff signed my cousin alan wanted to get his jersey signed...

He said "hey steve" to him as he got up to him and steve just looked at him and said "do I know you?" and walked off right then...

My cousin lost respect for him and never liked watched games as much after that

Wow not that is a really sad story Steve should be ashamed!!

I ran into him twice here in Charlotte - once at Target and once at Harris Teeter. Despite always loving his on-field play, I didn't bother him.

I've always hated the idea of being famous/well-known, and couldn't imagine everyone approaching you like they know you all the time. It would be torture for me, so I never intrude on any celebrities lives with whom I happen to cross paths.

I can't say how he is in his personal life, not knowing him. But, obviously there have been examples of his competitiveness spilling over and crossing the line at times. Hopefully he's learned from any mistakes he's made, and is better for it - hopefully making amends to any he's hurt.

I know his on-field fire was sure fun to watch. I still remember the touchdown he caught against the Giants, scoring defiantly as he broke his arm. One of many moments that encapsulated a rare breed of NFL player.

I saw him at Dowd YMCA in the summer of 2012. He was there to do some kids camps but was getting in some free weights. He had the bar unbalance and dropped the plates off the bar doing bench. I was about the only person in there.  He looked around to see who noticed and we exchanged a quick laugh. That's my story.
