File Under No S**t, Sherlock

Delhommey

Recommended Posts

Just wanted to address some things certain circles think people are oblivious to:

Jake Delhomme is not very good this year: Really? What clued you in? Was it the 10 interceptions in 5 games or the 4th worse passer rating in the NFL? That someone doesn’t have you scouting for their team is a f**king tragedy.

Like it or not, NFL QB’s are a rare commodity and for various reasons we don’t have a ready replacement. Before you start weeping and wailing, how many NFL teams do have a replacement QB at the ready? How bout the Titans with their first round bench warmer who, every time he plays, shows why he’s been warming the bench. How bout the Redskins and Browns, who both have had to sit their first round picks in favor of, well, not much better.

Little life lesson for you: It’s hard to find a NFL caliber QB. Very hard. And before you even start, for every Joe Flacco there is a Jason Campbell, Brady Quinn or JP Losman. Could we have drafted a few more QB’s in the later rounds? Sure. Doesn’t mean we wouldn’t be in the same position we are now. How bout the first round. Same but worse, really. Again, with the picks we had, we would face a 75% chance of total failure.

Our play calling is as conservative as an Amish date: Yes. Somehow after 7 years of watching John Fox, somehow we all missed this. And you mean now that he can’t trust his QB, it’s even more conservative? SHOCKING!!!!

Foxball has worked more often than it hasn’t (can’t deny the guy’s got a winning record), and anytime we try to get cute, it tends to blow up in our face (Gamble lateral in 06 anyone?). The conservative play calling becomes obvious when, as is happening now, the team cannot execute. It’s kinda like Mediterranean food: When you have shitty ingredients, it shows. But, just like with Mediterranean food, when the ingredients are good, it’s some of the best stuff on Earth.

Danny Crossman is a moron: Yeah. I got nothin’.

Seriously, what do you think you are bringing to the discussion when you point out for the 74,584th time that Jake can't throw the long ball? Did you think the rest of us missed it?

If you want to vent, go on Oprah.

:iagree:

Called it.

oh of course you did.

i mean you mentioned "first round QB" specifically which I never got into in this discussion but that doesn't matter you called it you should give yourself a high five in the mirror to celebrate how awesome you are

So in other words, stas are for losers.

The point is, no one with any sense believes that Fox and Hurney would never have drafted a 1st round QB no matter what. The fact is the overwhelming number of QB's drafted in the first round when we had a chance to get them were waaaaay too high risk, especially with players like Deangelo and Beason around. And guess what? Except for Flacco, the FO was absolutely correct that the players they took were better than the QB's they could have taken in the first round.

The sad thing is, your blind facsination with a first round QB has made you wrong even in hindsight. But the only alternative you see to taking a QB in the first round no matter what is NOT taking a QB in the first round no matter what. Until you realize there are other ways of looking at it (mainly taking a QB in the first round if that player is the best option), no amount of truth will ever sink in.

K so you can't answer these questions correctly. Got it. My point is, and always has been, this "idea" of not considering it in the first place, not opening yourself up to the possibility of drafting a QB in the first round is senseless. I guess you don't exactly share the same sentiment other people who have do, and I guess you haven't read the 1000 scripts of Fox or Hurney talking about how they don't feature doing it that way. Still, that's where a lot of your top starters are drafted and I don't care about the risk. This is the NFL, you'll meet a risk in whatever thing you do. This team has had 6 years to prepare, and it can't even field a decent backup QB, let alone a starting QB. And it doesn't matter what your personal probability rating is, what matters is that other teams give themselves the chance when we don't. There is no explanation, and no excuse other than that they underestimated the value of the QB position.

now you can call it, Brucie.

Watching game again, our Pass blocking is attrocious at times.

I've been trying to help y'all redirect blame to the appropriate positions... Not a damn thing is going to get done regardless of who is behind center until the guys up front get their poo together.
