The frustration, sirs, is that we're in a death spiral. When you have a young QB, a new HC, generally rebuilding, etc. you expect to take some lumps.

Until there is indication that something will change, it's natural to fear (and expect) the worst: that everybody will be back next year (including Hurney, Fox, Delhomme), and we'll again swirl down the 5-11 toilet.

I do believe that if Fox and Hurney are back next year, they will bring in a few quarterbacks. I doubt it will be a draft first rounder as we don't have one but it will be a trade for one that hasn't worked out elsewhere who may be a former first rounder. We will also bring in a few free agents. Will they work out? I don't know. And Jake will be starting until 1 of them shows they are clearly better.

If you don't like that scenario root for Fox and Hurney to be gone.

BTW, any new coach will likely keep jake as well given he costs as much as he does and would be a starting quality backup if he doesn't start.

So delhommey how do you justify the drafting approach, or lack thereof, of the panthers FO compared to the vast majority of the league? Are you aware of the possibility of which you will never, ever dismiss, no matter how hard you try, that different teams and different offensive systems can increase or decrease the likelihood any random qb will bust? Do you understand that there is probably a 99% chance GMs in general in the NFL don't care to break down qb boom/bust rate by percentage because it's stupid? Do you get the idea that "failure rate" is not applicable when comparing qbs drafted in any round since a lot of them won't ever get a chance to start barring injury since they weren't drafted with the intention that they would start eventually in the first place?

Can you answer one of these questions correctly without losing your cool?

The point is, no one with any sense believes that Fox and Hurney would never have drafted a 1st round QB no matter what. The fact is the overwhelming number of QB's drafted in the first round when we had a chance to get them were waaaaay too high risk, especially with players like Deangelo and Beason around. And guess what? Except for Flacco, the FO was absolutely correct that the players they took were better than the QB's they could have taken in the first round.

The sad thing is, your blind facsination with a first round QB has made you wrong even in hindsight. But the only alternative you see to taking a QB in the first round no matter what is NOT taking a QB in the first round no matter what. Until you realize there are other ways of looking at it (mainly taking a QB in the first round if that player is the best option), no amount of truth will ever sink in.
