Na'il Diggs Isn't Scared to Get Punched In the Face

Smitty was talking big picture, not about a single game. Smitty wants to make plays every week....now why do you think he now thinks he can't do that in Carolina?

imo it is a reasonable assumption based on watching this team that if your team has a QB that in not effective throwing the ball and can no longer lead an offense(and you are committed to that guy) - then Smith would no longer be an asset to that team.

No it is not a reasonable assumption but a leap of logic. Nowhere did it say that based on big picture versus one game. Instead I think it was all about one game. Smitty wasn't unhappy last week when he had 5 catches for over 100 yards. And if he had gotten 6 or 7 catches yesterday you would have heard nothing out of him either. He was unhappy this week when we didn't revolve the whole offense around him like usual. Instead we hit the open guy or tried to hit the single covered guy like everyone has been bitching about all season.

As for leading the offense, seems to me Jake was at quarterback in the 4th quarter when we marched down the field for a TD to win wasn't he?? Seems he was at quarterback on the other 3 three TD drives as well.

You are way out in left field.

Nothing Jake Delhomme has done this season deserves praise. A QB with no experience could make the plays he has and he has consistently turned the ball over. Smith has seen Jake will never be his old self and he doesn't have to say "Hey Jake sucks" so he will say he is no longer an asset. That is his way of saying, we can't get me the ball b/c we don't have a QB who can throw it to me. That's not reading into it, that is what he is saying.

he said he was no longer an asset to the team. that is not a reference to a singular game.

yes, Jake was the QB on the last drive. A drive where all we did was run it w/ one pass attempt. I drive following a pick 6 to let Tampa back in and one that no one watching felt comfortable w/ Jake even thinking of putting the ball in the air.........but if that is your definition of leading an offense? Ok. Too me that is just a liability on the field....the only thing he has done consistantly this year is turn it over. Can't argue that.

Also, Smith WAS the open guy at times.....Jake overthrew him twice. I say coming in based on the gameplan we saw initially and how bad the Tampa secondary is that Smith was a big part of the gameplan.....Jake couldn't get him the ball when open and Jake once again proved in general he struggled moving the ball.....then the offense became run, run, run, run, we aren't gonna let Jake lose this one late.

Yes, the final drive he lead by passing one time for four yards because he couldn't be trusted with the football and is the opposite of clutch now.

9/17 for 65 yards, 52% comp, 42.2 QB rating. Thank God for Jake leading those drives, we'd have been completely dominated if not for him. Williams and Stewart are just lucky to be able to ride on his back.

Gameplanning away from your starting QB is awesome.

Do you realize that even on running plays the quarterback often aubalizes based on the defense so it isn't just handing off the ball.

As for being open, on those overthrown ball Smitty had perhaps a step on the guy, that is hardly wide open. The only ball that could have been caught would have to be perfectly thrown. And would you rather have them overthrown or underthrown and picked off.

And we always planned to run alot. Their run defense is worse than their pass defense by far. More likely they are like we were, teams ran instead of passed and since they were ahead, just controlled the clock on the ground.

I agree that after the pick the idea was to run it but if they didn't trust Jake they wouldn't have thrown it to Smitty. The reality is that they see what hapened and what should have happened. If they still have faith in him perhaps just perhaps they know things from watching coaches film that you don't.

Smith did have a step on the defender....I never said he was WIDE open. That is however open in the world of Steve Smith. Smith has had a step on guys several times this year going vertical....Jake can't put the ball where it needs to be.

Perhaps Fox knows more than I and that is why he sticks w/ Jake? Sure he knows more than me in general. However, Fox proved in 07 he waited to long to make the right QB move.....the right QB move was obvious weeks prior. Fox's flawless are obvious as a coach.....therefore the picture you want to paint of him going w/ Jake b/c he is so much smarter....isn't that strong of an argument.

once again you bring up something we dissected over and over and you are wrong again. Moore didn't start before he did because he had no experience or work with the 1s. He wasn't even here until the regular season was starting. It was only after Carr burned out and Vinny couldn't go that Moore could have been elevated to starting status. Otherwise third stringers get no work with the 1s and even 2nd stringers don't get that much work. It is different than Camp. You install a gameplan in basically 3 days so you can't spread out the work to everyone. Even then in 2007, Fox had him out there after a week with the 1s which was the earliest he could have done it.

And it isn't smarter Einstein it is experienced. Moore has little experience or chemistry right now with the starters. If you started right now he wouldn't be ready for a week or two unless it was on an emergency basis. I expect he is getting some work but it is limited.

Moore showed enough in 07 that this board and our local media were all urging Fox to start Moore before he did. When Fox was finally forced to start Moore with 3 games left he proved to be a better option like many stated he was a few weeks earlier than Vinny/Carr. Carr/Vinny couldn't move the offense. Jake is now that guy.

your logic on why Moore didn't play earlier is flawed and whack. The reality if Fox prefered vets to play over him. That was it. A resume makes them better in Fox's mind...but that isn't always the case when looking a medicore QBs.

again, your logic is whack. Plenty of backups are called upon and do play better than struggling QBs. Look at Jake as a prime example in Carolina. Jake has no chemistry w/ anyone right now.....so what are you losing? The only thing you lose is a walking turnover machine named Jake in the move.

    • Chinn’s current stats are in line with his stats with Panthers before Evero arrived, and yes he regressed from his rookie year where he looked like a game changer. He is not putting up drastically different numbers now he just looks better on a winning team. We were all disappointed with his development even prior to Evero but he was definitely a misfit in the 3-4 defense.

    • Robinson has been solid. Would have loved to see Brown and him more this season. If Wonnum can be decent, then we should grab a couple Edges (1st, 2nd rounds) or grab one and try to grab a linebacker. Very, very early..but Abdul Carter, Landon Jackson, Lander Barton and Deone Walker seems like intersting options.    As far as QBs..Rourke out of Indiana could be an interesting option.
