Fox may meet with Smith about his comments

There were some breakdowns in protection, but for the most part the Oline played really well. Jake fails at decision making, holds onto the ball for too long, and has no sense of when the rush is coming.

I know Jake can find Smith if he has 10 seconds to throw the ball. However, so can any QB at the NFL level. If that's what you need, you're not good.

Yeah, but when did you see any Panthers WR running wide open? It's just not happening for whatever reason. Like I said yesterday, that pick six was a horrible decision by Jake, but it wasn't like there was anybody else to throw to on that play. He should have thrown the ball away, but that was the only real option on that play and a lot of other plays. It's not just Jake.

That would be my own impression. They commit guys to the passing game and I can’t call up an opponent and ask them not to do that. They get to do what they want. But that opens up other things for our football team and gives us an opportunity to win.

one thing I think we can all agree on is how frustrating it is that Fox realizes this concept that is bolded, but has yet to draft any solid WRs... It seems his best strategy is to put a 1 year band-aide on the issue with old vets. This is what you get... 1 WR who gets doubled because no one else is a threat.

For once Fox was right on. He was straighforward. Anyone who saw the game yesterday knows that Smitty was doubled all day and rarely open. What Smitty actually needs to do is remain patient and keep pluggin away until he gets his. While defensive players are largely fiery, Offensive players need to be more patient and calm. Both Jake and Smitty suffer from too many negative emotions particularly at the wrong time. It actually hinders both their performances contrary to popular belief.

Smitty and Jake need to watch The Secret.

I see a RB and TE open a lot. Its just that either Jake holds the ball too long cause he only looking one way, or he's just going throw in that way he's looking to most of the time. And he can't scramble to buy time for the WR to get some space

And Jake has been throwing to the TE's and the RB's quite a bit. You can't do it on every passing down though. At some point, the WR's have to step up and make some plays.

I agree for the most part. You don't see many Panthers WRs running open, it is mostly the checkdowns like the TEs and RBs that ever get open, but I'm assuming most of the time Jake misses them is when the main reads are to the WRs. On that pick six, it was one of the only times Smitty was open all day. Here is another look at it (sorry for crappy quality).

He had Moose running an inside route and Jake was looking at it the whole way. When Jake looks one way the defense reacts as such, and that is why it was returned for a TD. Not to mention Jake threw it off his back foot, which isn't the best way to throw the ball. I think Jake should have thrown it away like you said as well, but with it being 3rd down and Jake being the gambler that he is, that might just be wishful thinking.

I'll have to go back onto my DVR to spotlight exactly when it was, but I recall a play where we lined up two WR's on Jake's left, and it was either Moose or Rosario that pulled the safety help off of Smitty on a deep post. The CB on Smitty stayed in a zone just above the flat, and Smitty was open about 25 yards deep down the left sideline. Jake stared at him and stared at him until finally the safety came back over the top and what I think was the nickel corner ran up underneath and Jake threw it out of bounds and Smitty looked pissed.

That play mixed with overthrowing him on two deep routes probably really gets Smith pissed. I play football every other Sunday in a league, and I know I get pissed when I play wideout and feel like I'm constantly open and don't get the rock. I don't feel like that makes me a diva, it's the nature of the beast at that position. You work hard all game to break open just a handful of big plays, and when those opportunities are missed through no fault of your own it can be very frustrating.

Winning the game always helps me simmer down, but as Smitty knows too, you aren't going to win every game the way we won on Sunday.

I don't know why Fox can't take a step back and realize Jake is not going to beat good teams and win the big one anymore. And considering it's meaningless to win a handful of regular season games and limp into the playoffs and then get your ass kicked, you need a QB that you can win at least partially because of, not in spite of.

I remember was it last year or the year before that every single week, several times a week, Lovie Smith would hold the press conference saying "Rex is my quarterback." That defense carried the team and they one in spite of Rex. That's what we got. Jake is not even a game manager anymore.

Jake Delhomme is like bad cholesterol. He's just waiting to give us all a heart attack every single time he drops back.

I think this is why I dont see Smith as a Diva ether. No matter what sport I played I wanted the ball in my hands so I could make a play. When you work hard and know you can make big plays you want the ball. Jake has done a 180 in the arm department. He use to not have any Power or distance but some touch. Now he has Power and distances but no touch. I would say him and Mike Vick are about the same in the accuracy department. Thats why I know Moore is better but I also know Fox is not gonna let him take his lumps because he is on the hot seat. We are gonna die with Jake this year.

I play amateur football on the lowest level and I want the damn ball every play... And I think I'm open every time too. (I am... no lie) :)
