Julio Jones holding out

gotta say, I understand other receivers are making more money than him, but he's the one who signed a 6 year deal, with 3 left to play/pay.

However, a little surprised how many Falcons fans are turning on Julio.

Exactly. What if half way through his next one, others surpass him yet again. Will he hold out again? At least play out the contract until there's 1 year left.

All they have to do is give him an incentive laden deal for the year. If he goes all pro or the Falcons win the Superbowl he gets millions more. 1500 yards a million more. 125 catches- Cha ching... If the player is that good you got a deal and you can tell the rest of the team that if they put up top numbers like Julio each year then they can get some incentives too.

What if he gets career ending injury?

No, not really.

Source: Julio Jones wants a 3 year, 28 million per year average contact.

This will be the downfall if this league.

They can't continue to pay out these outrageous individual contracts, and the teams paying them out, remain competitive.

Julio Jones is a fantastic receiver, but no single receiver is worth that much money.

A salery cap via position has to be looked at, or just do away with the salery cap all together.

The salary cap is what makes the league perennially competitive.  The NFL would be a whole lot worse without it.

They have Sanu and Ridley. They're not hurting for targets to throw to. Julio is one of the best, but like you said, no receiver is worth that.

Too many players on a team to give gigantic deals to after a couple good years. Teams and agents play fast and loose with the numbers because they know careers are 8-10 years long if you're lucky. Sign a 6 year deal, better be happy with the contract. You can't demand more money because the franchise qb has a big contract now. Restructure it to add incentives or gtfo. Only way to go about it.

This will set precedent one way or the other. Owners need to have the control in these situations some of the time, and this is one of those times. Imagine any player on this team pulling this. This board would turn on him real quick.
