REPORT: Panthers to give long term deal to Daryl Williams

Recommended Posts

The Charlotte Observer expects the Panthers to extend contract-year RT Daryl Williams before the start of the season.

Williams was one of the top tackles in the league last year, grading behind only David Bakhtiari and Joe Staley in PFF's ratings. The Panthers will likely be extending Williams when his value is at its highest, but don't want to risk losing him next offseason. Williams is going to command at least the five-year, $37.5 million deal Chris Hubbard got from Cleveland. He could push for Justin Pugh's $9 million annually.

A solid deal not tipping the scale would be another solid Hurney 2.0 move he's looking like he truly has learned quality GM moves. The performance of these draft picks this season could make Dave look a lot less valuable.

If we can get him for 8, hopefully no insane guarantees, I'm fine with it. This is essentially based on one season of production and we have viable replacements so I wouldn't go crazy. I like Daryl, but I would love to know what Moton could do at RT as well. I don't see him as an ideal LG
