Maybe. He’s absolutely an elite talent and a difference maker, but he’s often injured and evidently seriously considered retiring this offseason. Might be best for the future to get something out of him and move on.

Then again, they should be in absolute win now mode with Brady in his final years.

I think it's an ego thing. I really think he wants a ring without Brady. I think it's the biggest reason why he was trying to hang onto Garrapollo before trading him for cheap out of spite. Right now, he knows his legacy is 100% tied to Brady. I really think he wants to show that it was he who made Brady not vice versa.
