The signing is prorated and included in that cap number

Not any of the remaining 14.7M  guaranteed money that still must be accounted for is. Most of it is bonus money. But the trade off for these “reasonable” salaries is huge cap hits next year.

Wait????  All we have been hearing from the huddle is how the dude is trash.  What gives Huddle?!?!?

He's going to have to put up or shutup.  He's been "getting better" every year, but he needs to earn that $11 million a year.  We REALLY need him to step up and dominate like a #4 pick should.  Or at least be top 10 of his position.  Or just not a speedbump???  Is that too much to ask?

Fair amount of women like that are only going to be interested in men with deep and expendable pockets.

The more time you spend round a player, the more likely you are to buy into excuses. When you get paid by the same folks...well that just muddies up the water more.

I hope he's better, but I'm going to have to see it. Without seeing anything different, I'm going to stick with my gut that tells the left side of the line is going to be a liability without norwell and continuing with an oversold player whose value laid more in his last name than ability.

It reeks of Mister's "we're a family" mantra. Poisoned the football and office personnel with his bullshit.

That's not huge. I'll wait to judge that next year. If he can play decent that cap hit will likely be about middle of the league in terms of LTs.

fug, it's raining.

Not even overcast.

Dang it, it's raining.

No, just a little cool.

Damnit, it rained all this last season!!

No, just a few sprinkles.

Well, it's still going to pour down on us.

Look, outside, the sun is shining!!

I didn't want to go fishing anyways! Damn rain!

There are always these highly optimistic pieces every offseason about a below average player.  A few years ago Byron Bell was touted as a potential all pro during OTA's just because he started screaming at a bunch of players in practice in an effort to get them hyped up.  We all know how that worked out.

I certainly hope Matt improves a lot.  Not just over last season...but over the last several years of his career.  We really won't know much of anything until the pads are on and guys are going all out.

Matt has a few things going for him-for an OL, he is basically in his prime, and if he was confused or healing last year, it makes sense.  I see an improvement, but nothing that substantial.  Remember, Norv wants to get the ball out quicker...

If you are looking for improvement in 2018, I think Bradberry is a better bet, or maybe Byrd.

First of all if you look at his last 14 games he gave up a couple of  sacks. And according to what I read in this thread our left side outside run blocking was top 5. That wouldn't be just due to Norwood but Kalil as well. He was a probowl player his rookie year so it isn't get better as if he has never played well, it is get healthy so you can return to form. Anyone think Newton's probowl season was a fluke? Then why would Kalil's? He is finally healthy, he has Matso who is one of the best teachers in the business and we got more weapons on offense.  Kalil is going to be decent to above average this year. And we are going to go 11-5 this season at least.

    • Canales was brought in to fix Bryce. That was how he sold himself. He failed.  the panthers need a new qb, someone to coach him, and someone to build a defensive staff.  Canales has failed at developing a new qb. His big draft project XL is trending towards bust. His entire nfl resume before the panthers was one season as offensive coordinator on a stacked Bucs team, and being on the offensive staff when a 31 year old Geno smith finally put it all together. And he didn’t even pick his offensive coordinator. Assuming evero is gone, who’s he got in that phone to call? What low lvl porn addict evangelical from the bucs is ready to be Peter principled? There is nothing in his coaching history or his current performance that indicates he’s the person to move this team forward. Every other team knew this last cycle (panthers were only interview) and nothing has happened to change that perception   all people like you have is “well you can’t do it again it’s too soon but <random interval of time> will be different.  just pull off the bandage. There’s no reason to let this guy draft “his guy” except people wanting an excuse not to fire him after 2025.
    • Both Reich and Canales were saddled with trying to build and establish a viable scoring offense around Bryce Young. The best the offense looked this season and last season was with Andy Dalton who is also terrible but still better than Bryce Young. Which should be all anyone needs to know but still somehow there are weirdos here salivating over a ceiling of maybe on a really good day the 25th best QB in the league. We've already canned one entire staff over our first overall pick. You can fire everyone again to satisfy your need for vengeance and quickly come to the realization that your next hire will absolutely unequivocally be a downgrade yes man or you can blow up this QB room and then assess. If no progress next season then you can make changes and justifiably so.
    • Surprised this is the only post with this take.  This is like the Rhule kiss of death lol.
