Torrey Smith responds to Trump who says he's canceling the Philadelphia Eagles' event at the White House

Mike Florio puts it best:

Regardless of whether that’s an accurate description of the reasons for some Eagles to choose not to attend, the move reconfirms that the NFL cannot and will not win when it comes to the anthem issue, no matter how completely and repeatedly the owners try to capitulate to the President’s wishes. Anything done by the owners won’t be good enough or genuine enough or zealous enough.

Some would say they shouldn’t have done anything, accepting the fact that the President and his base will continue to twist the tiger’s tail no matter what the tiger does.

good. athletes refusing to meet the president simply b/c he's on board with the NFL making it a requirement to stand during the national anthem is appalling. i'm glad he cancelled their visit.

besides, if you really think these athletes truly care about police brutality and racial injustices against african americans by kneeling, you're either severely brainwashed by the false narrative movement or naive to the fact that athletes are actually using their platform to inflict change simply by kneeling for a mere 2 min to draw attention to themselves.

besides kaepernick (who only started his million dollar pledge after receiving huge backlash from the media), what other athletes are proactively out there in their communities donating to charities, speaking in public forums, educating our youth, or doing anything to put an end to these so called racial injustices and socioeconomic barriers POC face?

i wish the NFL would have added another stipulation to the new rule. If a player decides to kneel during the national anthem, not only do you fine them, but instead of the NFL collecting that fine, force that player to take that money and donate it to whatever cause or whatever the hell they're kneeling for in the first place (if they even have a clue).

we already have the media shoveling these narratives and agendas down our throat 24 hours a day. We don't need a player kneeling during our national pastime to push these issues to the forefront. Instead, go out there in the community and inflict some real change (without cameras) and prove to yourself that you truly care about what you're protesting against.
