Matt "Speed bump McGee" Kalil..

Recommended Posts

Only someone who just looks for stats and doesn't actually watch the games would post something like this. Watch any game and you'll see he's clearly the weakest link on the line, pressure usually comes from him directly whiffing on his man, and the shirt dump offs to CMC helping to get the ball out of cams hands faster took away a lot of the pressures and sacks that would have been the results. He's fuging garbage

Matt Kalil is weird in that he already is decent but lacks confidence, which in turn leads to egregious errors. Most of his issues stem from mental errors/technical mistakes. Seems hesitant at times.

I just think he needs confidence. He can be decent. He just needs to stop making those glaring errors that taint his name and gain some confidence.

I don’t see that being the case. As long as RR is HC we’ll remain dedicated to the run game.

And if you look at Turners history, other than a few outliers, his offenses rank mid to low half of the league in passing attempts and high in rushing attempts.

Watching Coaches film isn't a good enough medium to evaluate a player, basically what you're saying.  So the end of year film study that several teams do to evaluate a player is a waste of time..

Jesus some of you just want to be right even if it's in your own mind.

"more of a passing team" I should clarify that. The percentage will go up, we will be passing more often than last year. I can guarantee you that.

Seeing as we're about to become a passing team with Norv.. I feel quite fine with Matt.

This. Why does everyone think we will continue to focus on running the ball so much when we no long have dwill, jstew, or mike Shula? Not to mention Cam might actually have weapons this year. I think we pass a good bit more this year and hopefully a lot of that is on 1st downs since we almost never passed on first downs before

This narrative would actually make sense. Came in as a great rookie, got injured. Never quite was the same. Maybe his body healed but his mind didn’t?

Can't stop the hate. He was deemed the most hated before he took a snap for the Panthers, and he'll remain that way until he's gone, most likely replaces by someone worse.

We had Jordan Gross for so long so I understand why people have high expectations on Matt.  There should be high expectations.  But to sit there and just be tearing this guy down when he's NOT that bad.. Jesus christ you'd think we have up a first round pick for the guy. There's also an option to let him go next year if he doesn't perform well. Gettleman knew what he was doing,  so Matt can't really eat so much money and underperform.

His first year wasn't great but it wasn't this horror show people say it was. He was average to above average and in the playoffs was amazing. 2 pressures the whole game. Daryl Williams got worked.

He wasn’t good last year. I’m hoping that a lot of the cause for it was that he was recovering from that surgery and that he’ll be much improved this coming season. He looked really physically weak out there last year.

I want to believe that his recent recovery from surgery played a part in his poor performance. Anyone who has had surgery on a major joint knows that it takes a long time, if ever to feel 100% again, even if it's just getting the rough edges ground down, and none of us have to actually hold our own with professional D linemen. Hopefully he sees an uptick this year, that'd be nice. Otherwise, at least we only have one more year until we can jettison him without much pain.

I for one want Matt Kalil to perform at a Pro Bowl level and execute a comeback year. It’ll be for the best. He’ll be the consummate trade bait in 2019 for a GM that’s in the mode of Dave Gettlemen and for a team desperate enough to make the move. How else can you expect the Panthers to get rid of a horrendous $14.7M cap hit if we cut bait? Crazier things have happened.

Matt Kalil, cheers to you and have yourself a career year.
