Top 6 WRs

Recommended Posts

After looking at the Roster I can see us keeping 6 WR with Byrd as our PR/WR.

Funchess, Moore, Samuel, Smith, Wright being the primary WRs.

If we only keep 5 do we cut Wright or Byrd.  I think the other 4 are fairly safe.

Do any of the others really have a legitimate shot of replacing Wright or Bryd or are they just camp fodder?

What a difference over a year ago.  I really like those six players and gives Turner the opportunity to do some really interesting things.

I think half the board is high on Byrd the other half wasn’t as impressed with him due to the small sample size. I think Damiere  just needs to stay healthy. If he has prepared for a rigorous season the way he should by possibly putting on a few pound of muscle/mass I am definitely on the we need to keep him train. He was to valuable in the games he played to cut him or let him walk. We saw the importance of needing depth last year. Since Samuel and Byrd are slight in frame I think keeping 6 guys is important but at the same time that’s why we have OTAs and training camp. All 6 should be able to show if they belong in Norvs offense.

I just hope Rivera stays out of Norvs way. He needs to spend his time in the secondary meeting rooms.

5'11" and 200lbs isn't exactly slight of frame. If that's the case, a lot of guys are including OBJ.

Outside the Philly Brown punt return for a touchdown and that was more of a gaff than a great return.

When was the last time we scored a TD off a punt return?  Byrd return last year was outstanding and we are crazy not to keep him as a PR.   that is why I feel Wright is the odd man out if we stick with only 5 WRs.

The slight of frame comment was directed more so to Damiere Byrd. He is 5’9” and probably 185. I’m assuming you are referencing to Samuel who last season had just as many injury concerns as Byrd. My point was for the team to be successful those guys have to stay healthy.

Byrd is practice squad material. He's the reason we went out and got receivers because we don't need clay and byrd playing receiver. Rivera only ever keeps 5 WR. Byrd will have his chance if someone gets hurt, which i'm still banking on Samuel.

Not way Wright is getting cut.  He’s above average slot WR.

We also paid him $2 million up front and he's the most familiar with Norv's offense. I think he is on the team, even if we have to cut Byrd. I think we keep six though.

FYI Byrd has the KO return. Clay had the punt return. Your point about any return TDs stands though.

Byrd has no more PS eligibility.  A lot of people don't realize this is his fourth season coming up here.  I suppose we could stash him on IR with some made up injury if we wanted, but even that wouldn't make sense since his contract is up after the season.  This needs to be the season he comes good or gets cut.

Steve Smith was 5'9 185.... Byrd shares a similar build... yet smitty was himself injury prone.

I get what you're saying, but Samuel doesn't really have the same injury concerns as Byrd in my opinion. Samuel's only real injury was bad luck. He got his ankle rolled up. As for the hamstring, that was just the team playing it safe (much like the Giants did with OBJ his rookie year).
