Which are you more worried about Offense or Defense?

Recommended Posts

Defense, by far.

Until proven otherwise, our OL scares me and it's ceiling is probably mediocrity this year.  The rest of the offense should be pretty damn good.

The defense tho?  The only positions I feel good about are DT and LB, where one injury is detrimental. Feel like Hurney pulls a Jared Allen type trade during the season to help correct some things once we get started.

Can has always had weapons. People think just because we drafted CMC or Moore he now has weapons. Before even playing an NFL snap, we have weapons...because we drafted them....and they’re offense. That’s how you can tell the screaming Madden-playing posters, the ones screaming he doesn’t have weapons.

He’s had 1,000 yard backs and receivers and has always had an elite TE. He has had more than other top elite QBs in the league he’s compared to. Easily. It’s just been harder to tell because nothing has been schemed properly.

Digressing...as I said Cam has always had weapons. Always. What he hasn’t had for the first half of his career is an offensive line. And what he hasn’t had the latter 3/4ths of his career is an OC which is a huge reason people think he’s had little to work with.

With Norv running things, it will get better and people will say it’s because of weapons but looking more closely it’ll be because he understands this offense much much more extensively.

The offense is going to be not so much a worry for me more so seeing it run how it’s suppose to without any Shula BS thrown in there.

I don't see the big issues others do. Out defensive line has always been about the defensive tackles more than defensive ends. The tackles absorbing double teams frees up the DE to make a play only having to defeat one blocker.  And Poe and Short will be the best tandem in the league.  We don't need high priced vets at DE just good guys who can run contain and collapse the edges. Peppers isn't the starter, more of a pass rush specialist.

The secondary is improved with faster speed guys except for Adams.  We can finally play man at corner with Bradberry, Seymour, Cockrell and Gunter. Add Jackson, Elder and Munnerlyn for experience  in the slot. Searcy is an upgrade over Coleman at free safety.  I don't get it.  Top 10 for sure. Top 5 possibly if we didn't play in the offense happy NFCS.

Historically where have we stuggled the most?  Offense.  Our Defense is always decent to awesome.  Our offense has been awful to decent most years aside from 2015.  I am going with offense.  The Luke Kuechly led defense will be fine.  They will find a way to get it done.

Our DL is better than last year’s.  We got rid of a guy in C.J. that delivered absolutely nothing fit several years and upgraded at the DT position.

I didn't even factor CJ in. Poe is an upgrade on paper, so hopefully that pans out. If Peppers takes a step back and our younger guys aren't able to be effective, it could be a pretty thin unit. I think it's a pretty valid concern, although not near the level of our secondary or offensive line.

We havnt but have a general idea

We have a #1 who took a Massive sophomore slump and was easily beat last year.  Just a Zay Jones, Julio, and Theilen wide open drop from losing us 3 games

We have Mike Adams who was a older jag last year to fill in

We brought in Searcy who has bounced around as a avg starter in mediocre secondaries in this league.

We brought in a teams castoff in Cockrell because he was a decent zone CB, now our new DC wants to play more man.

We brought in 2 rookies

One a former nickel whi was projected a round 4-6 guy that we're trying to convert to FS, and is one of the least athletic safties to ever come out

And the other is a guy who had the typical stock shoot up after the 4.3 combine.  And while its very little weve seen, it was him getting worked by Austin Duke (a guy fighting for a practice squad spot) in mini camp.

So if these things make you feel warm and fuzzy about our secondary, you really need to take off the homer glasses

Very good points I do rock big time homer glasses here and there my fandom gets me but when I look back at drafts it's a crap shooting event it comes down to situations work ethic and heart. So as of know I still have he hopes that they pan out it's not a crazy thought that Ron can make another JNO type of DB outta somebody who has all the traits just needs   his time to work. Unathletic players have been excellent players before so don't think Gaulden will be the first not comparing but showing others that didn't have good combines.

Chancellor measured at 6-3, 231 pounds and delivered a solid bench press with 22 reps at 225 pounds. The problem was that he did little to shake the notion that he was caught in between safety and maybe needing to transition to linebacker out of Virginia Tech with a slow 40 (4.62). Seattle took the four-time Pro Bowler in the fifth round and accepted him as a hard-hitting hybrid.

Navarro Bowman

At the 2010 combine, the Penn State linebacker underwhelmed in the 40 (4.77 seconds) and vertical jump (29.5 inches). The 49ers grabbed him in the third round of the draft. Since then, Bowman has racked up four first-team All-Pro nods.

Now on to Cockrell he's rated higher then Worley (DW-58 RC-81) cast off or not no matter how he came to us his performances showed good results. What more can he do but preform when called upon. Your discounting what KK and Addy can so for your DBs. If that's considered a upgrade and DJ gives us s better 3rd option/nickel we would have to say Searcy is a upgrade from Coleman based off last years preformances ( Pff KC-47 DS-71) that's considered  a improvement slight but still a improvement no we didn't go get Earl Thomas or the likes of but if you slightly improve you're doing your job. Honestly with the piss poor secondary from last year how far off were we from beating NO when we needed to most? Didn't we already beat who we would have played next (Minn) with that wack secondary? Like I'm a homer but sometimes y'all are so negative I get confused how far were we from beating the DAM Champs? These examples, I hope gives you perspective to how good we are or can be with the upgrades the d should be Tenacious. Now no homer talk but you don't think we've gotten better? If we improved our O
