Which are you more worried about Offense or Defense?

Recommended Posts

For me it is the defense.  Luke is one concussion away from pulling a Dan Morgan.  DE could be good or very bad.  CB has some young talent but how long will it be until they are sound.   Our starting safeties have 2 years or less in our organization.    And we are long in the tooth with TD and JP.   I still believe we will be good but lots of questions.

Offensively, I think Hurney (cough, cough, gag, gag) did a good job of filling holes, at least weapons wise, for Norv Turner's offense.   I think Cam is going to fit perfectly into this scheme and while we might not have 1000 yd receivers on this team.  He'll break 4000 yds.   Our WR corps has gone from a bunch of question marks to us having to release a good WR because we have so many.   Our addition of CJ at running back is just what we needed.  Overall I think we can score against anyone and we'll be better off than 2017.  Mostly because we have a legitimate OC.

Thoughts?

I'm glad we can go and outscore any other team and not depend on defense all the time. Offense doing well makes a defense better and stay fresh from not being out there all the time.

Both units are an injury away from mediocrity. I worry about the defense more though, particularly at defensive end. We are banking a lot on JP being effective at his age and on Hall emerging.

Losing Kalil Senior, Cam, CMC or CJ would really hurt.   Olsen would be painful but I think the rookie TE would do better than Dickson did last year.

I am not banking on JP as much as others.  While I hope he adds an exclamation point to his career with 10+ sacks I am hoping his leadership will help the young talent we have get better.

The new engaging contact with your helmet as a weapon rule should help Luke. We don’t talk about this much but he adapted his play about 2 to 3 years ago. You never see him barrel down on anyone anymore. In addition if the player is the size of our fullback Armah he will take a calculated angle so he doesn’t hurt himself unnecessarily. It’s the live to see another day approach. He knows he means more to the team.  He also knows  his health is more important than one play.

It has hurt his effectiveness on goal line stances a little but he stays on the field where he is more valuable.

Gotta be defensive end.

I love Julius, but at this point in his career he shouldn't be starting. Addison is a quality starter.

Injury at the position would derail the defense, and fast. Especially with the fact we only have one true starter.

We are depending on young guys to step up, but the reality is none of them should be starting.

Please don't mention Horton, because he's also a rotational guy.

An injury to Cam or Luke would wipe out the season.

We are old and thin at LB and DE

Questions on the Oline

How quickly and effectively will Cam and the others adapt to whatever Norv brings to the table

A little worried about several areas, but that's football

Which I why I just don’t understand why he haven’t signed one of the safeties on the market. It’s truly baffling to me.
