New policy requires on-field players, personnel to stand for anthem

I've began noticing over the last several years that the loudest self described patriots in this country more often than not tend to exhibit views and behavior that happen to be more in line with batshit crazy nationalism than actual patriotism which entails empathy for your fellow citizens.

Kids shot to death in school: YOU'LL NEVER TAKE MY GUNS!

Unarmed black man killed by police: COMPLY OR DIE!

Black athletes kneeling during the national anthem: STAND FOR THE ANTHEM OR GET OUT OF MY COUNTRY!

That homeless vet who looks like he hasn’t showered in a few months that stands on the corner of south Tryon and 485 - next time I see him I will be sure to let him know that the millionaire black football players are now forced to stand in his honor. That should get him through the week.

Don't be racist. I see you are trying to say all black men are stupid.

There are a ton of racist panthers fans. This thread is proof. I hope no players read this board. SMDH.

Im sure these losers on here running their mouths would gladly say it to one of their faces as well.

Assuming your talking about US here and not South Korea as those two are talking about.

Public school system?  Public schools would fall under Public sector and not private.  So they would be protected by first amendment rights.

Where do things fall if a private employer's policy can be shown to be influenced or directed by a state official (someone for from the DoJ which pours money into the the league, or possibly the President)?  I would suspect that at least a case could be made, even if it were not ultimately successful, that the NFL is acting as a proxy for the state in enacting this rule, which might mean the first amendment would apply.

In other words, you can't (well, shouldn't be able to) get around the first amendment by having private entities do the dirty work.

Exactly a racist president should be able to collude with a private business to enslave its workers.

THIS^^^.   The NFL is a club.  This isn't a business where anyone can get a job.   Players are fortunate enough to have the talent to be apart of this club.  All clubs have rules and by-laws.  When you join this club you agree to abide by the by-laws or in this case Amended by-laws and in return you get a huge paycheck.   If you don't want to abide by these by laws find another line of work and give up that fat paycheck.   This club knows that this lack of respect is hurting the league.  They are losing money and this is why.  Many fans are like me, they feel the players are disrespecting our country by kneeling and are giving up on the sport. Those that don't feel its an issue have the liberal mentality that being an American never came with a cost.  The same ones that believe burning the flag is an acceptable practice too.

I can tell you this, this isn't going to change when the CBA comes up.  The league will not be held hostage to players that want to kneel.

@ECUPantherFan noted.  You're on the clock. You want to protest. DO IT ON YOUR OWN TIME.

This is a fair compromise.   Fans will know you are protesting when they don't see you on the field.

Kneeling is more respectful than the average fan sitting on their ass, at the stadium or in their home. Requiring an anthem makes their employees participate in national patriotism which I would argue is beyond the bounds of their employment.

It is a compromise. But it is an immature one.

The NFL is also losing money(i mean not really, just less than before). for other reasons. It's become over saturated, concussions, shitty officiating with no way of challenging it. Thus people are becoming less invested as before.

The NBA has the same policy.

The problem the NFL has is timing.  Had this rule been implemented 15 or so years ago, it would barely have been noticed.  The players who wanted to protest would find some other way, as the NBA players have.  Not sure if it would be the issue that it is now, but it would likely still be an issue to some.
