Possible changes to anthem guidelines

I would love to see literally every single player go out and kneel for the anthem across every team just for the shitstorm it will cause.

That'd be hilarious.

"Hey! no more kneeling. If you do you'll be in big, BIG trouble"

Players: "k"

That might happen.

The president shared a tweet from an account, @CoreyLMJones, who posted a photo seeming to show a woman grieving by a military grave. She is shown on top of a blanket, which appears to have photos of her and her loved one stitched across it. The photo shows bold text that reads: “THIS IS WHY WE STAND.”

The president shared the post on his account, tweeting: “So beautiful…Show this picture to the NFL players who still kneel!”

All the “the ratings are down due to politics” will shut up now, and the ratings will still go down.

This is basically the NFL showing and proving which side they care about and cater to the most, large chunk of the players and fans of those fighting brutality be damned.

If I played, I wouldn’t even come out. We know what will happen with that, though. The media will point out which player isn’t out and the stand for the anthem crew will go to attacking said player. They will still complain of politics, and still respond with “that’s why the ratings are down!!!!” If everyone isn’t complying or feel how they do about this country, they will get upset.

i personally couldn't care less about the players standing or getting on their knees. i tune in to watch the game not for the anthem. matter of fact, while the anthem is being played i am doing my last things to get ready for the game. i'll stick to sports while you stick to politics, since i agree with about 95% of the other posters on here that your posts leave a lot to be desired.

There is another picture of a grieving wife looking at her husbands body during his funeral (soldier was KIA) and it went viral, picked up by conservative twitter users and conservative twitter personalities all basically crying about the nfl anthem protests. The widow has a twitter account and told people to stop using her image and polticizing her husbands death.

The whole issue of the anthem protests, the thing that has got the most traction when the president, politicians, news outlets talk about it is centered around the military. Even though the players have said they are not protesting military. One of the players protesting, Rishard Matthews, had a brother KIA.

for some moron in this thread to say that he hasdnt heard about the military and protests connection is ascinine and mind boggling. That person needs to stick to sports!

If ONLY you felt this passionately about the well being of combat vets when they come home, or the mistreatment of people of color by police officers.

Wow, i am a Desert Storm vet....

If only YOU were so passionate about people of color mistreating and killing each other. Chicago  ring any bells?

The time to fight  police is not at the time of arrest, do it in court. Get video, push for mandatory body cams. Hey something player fines could go to.

Abusive cops abuse everyone and everything. 3 times more whites are shot by cops every year.

Feel free to ignore facts and solutions to continue your race based agenda... tho.

Also would like to point out that MadHatter's Con Law lesson above, while generally correct, neglects to mention cases where private entities who are found to have been acting at the behest of the state are, for all intents and purposes, considered "state actors" which may permit a plaintiff to recover in a First Amendment action. Look no further than our current carrot-in-chief's NFL diatribes to see how this could be applied in a potential retaliation case against NFL owners.

The fact that you use a term “carrot in chief”....sounding like a middle school insult...would lead me to seek alternative counsel.

fyi...my brother in law is also a partner in a prestigious DC law firm.  I sent him your comment about whether Trumps stance could be problematic in this case and potentially be used in potential retaliation case.  His first respond was to laugh...and his second was no it wouldn’t as Trunp’s comments were nothing but his personal opinions on the situation and in no way rose to the level of anything close to law, retaliation, nor government intervention.

Just because your brother is chauffeur at this law firm, that doesn’t make him qualified to make an informed assertion.

Which no life having groups more pathetic?  Those who get pissed off when players protest or those who are threatening to get pissed off if they don't.  Seems like both groups would get along great in the "must not have anything wrong in their otherwise perfect lives" club if this is what they waste their time worrying about.

This entire thing is scapegoat NFL can blame declining ratings on instead of the laundry list that has been piling up for years. The vast majority of fans don't care I suspect half the fans who boycott would give you more reasons than just the kneeling.

Good for your brother in-law, I'm delighted he works for a prestigious firm. I don't hold myself out as counsel as I work for the State of NC, so I would also advise you to seek alternative counsel.

I'll try not to have my feelings hurt by your brother in-law's very thoughtful and educated response. While I'm picking up the pieces, do me a favor and have him read up on Paige v. Coyner and Dossett v. First State Bank, will you?

His comment was not an insult.  Just a legal opinion that (1) yes your assertion that acting as the govt would be problematic, but (2) Trump’s personal comments that were made do not come close to meeting that standard.
