Criticize all you want, the Defense is progressing.

The rushing defense has moved up from 30th, to 28th. whats two spots? everything. if the pass defense (2nd) stays where it is, and the rushing D continually progresses (like it has since week 1), then we have the ability to stay in every game we play by playing good defense. We are no where near where we want to be, but you can't deny that we are getting better.

your pass defense is 2nd b/c you lose early and often which makes teams run the ball.

your defense looked better this weekend b/c the bucs offense was held off the field more a large part of the 2nd half while your offensive line was inserting our defensive players heads in their asses.

Having Harris back was huge for the secondary and picking up Hollis was huge for the front 7. No one expected the defense to come out with a hot start this year even with all the starters but now progress is being made. I expect it to continue as long as the turnovers are kept down.

versus Washington and Tampa Bay

well, yeah, but josh johnson aside, the bucs have a very capable offense. their offensive line is one of the better ones in the league, and the panthers were consistently breaking down the pocket. they'd have had eight or so sacks if it weren't for how mobile johnson was.

even more shocking than the sudden reemergence of peppers (who was out of his mind yesterday) is the emergence of a really good defensive end rotation. that is why i didn't want the panthers to resign him; they already had adequate talent, certainly more than was needed to argue against 1+ mil a game.

but yeah, maybe hollis thomas was just what the doctor ordered.

speaking of peppers, wasn't he working against Trueblood? hes not exactly a push-over tackle

he was all over the field

brayton is the only one that only plays RE. I saw peppers, johnson, and brown lining up all over the place yesterday

Agree with this post. Whether it is because of bad offensive teams or healthier lineup, this defense is playing much better. The pickup of Hollis Thomas and the healthy return of Chris Harris has been huge.

Are we a top 10 NFL defense, probably not. Can this unit play well enough to help us win 9-10 games, maybe so. The key will be improving our secondary play. Harris helps vs. run, but the play of Godfrey and Marshall has been suspect at best and I love Captain but being a rookie and small of stature makes him suspect on any play. Gamble is the best we have and he was sub par this week. He must play better.

we are about 15th overall. i think we might be 13 or 14 now. but notice how the tide has turned from this year to last year. Last year we won in spite of the Defense. This year, we are winning in spite of the offense (passing game.) and special teams.

I'm sorry but our secondary is playing pretty good. Look at how many times the QB has been flushed out of the pocket because of coverage in the past 2 weeks. The pass rush has been good, the coverage has been good and the run D is coming along(which should get better now that everyone is adjusting to having Hollis).

This is quite odd. Coming into this season the last thing I was worried about was the offense and man they have been awful so far.

If we can get this running game going and the defense continues to improve, we could make a run
