hardy paid the chick off to go away. that's why it didn't work with him. that may or may not be the case here as well, don't know. but it is public knowledge that hardy paid holder a settlement to prevent any civil action, and it in turn coincided with her refusing to cooperate with the prosecution.

Not for nothing, but he did it after the fact. Like he knew he did nothing wrong, but wanted it to go away.
