How ridiculous is the NFCS?

This post came out of a discussion on Reddit on RB duos, but it's something to think about.

  • QBs: Brees, Ryan, Cam, and Jameis
  • RBs: Kamara/Ingram, CMC/Anderson, Freeman/Coleman, and Jones/whoever
  • WRs:  Jones/Sanu, Evans/Jackson, Thomas/Ginn (lol), and Funchess/whoever

That's three top-10 QBs (with two former MVPs and Breesus), and three top-5 running back duos in the same division.  Three of the teams have very solid WR corps as well.  And the Panthers and Falcons had top 10 defenses last year.

Is there any other division in football that's this crazy competitive?

Honestly, there isn't.

Last year, three of our teams went to the playoffs and the fourth wasn't that far behind. Divisions that competed head to head with us last season basically got stomped across the board.

I'm not sure I've seen an entire division so competitive since maybe the 1980s NFC East. And maybe not even then as they had the lackluster St. Louis Cardinals among them.

I agree NFC south is the most competitive, but NFC North is not far behind.

Im from chicago and watch a lot of Bears football and the only reason bears sucked was because our top 3 wrs were injured, and fox was defensive minded and ignored our offensive needs.

They now have Allen robinson, taylor gabriel, anthony miller (prospect I was high on) to go along with trey burton, jordan howard, and tarik cohen. Not to mention they had a top 10 defense last year which they never got credit for.

Aaron rodgers is back and despite losing nelson, they got jimmy graham and on defense, signed wilkerson. Also drafted 2 of the top 5 cbs in the draft.

Vikings signed sheldon richardson and kirk cousins and get dalvin cook back. They also drafted a top cb mike hughes to go along with their already strong cb core.

Lions are w.e. which is why NFC North will be second to the south

These teams build there teams to compete with each other.  Three are top tier teams so each team not only beat up on each other but they can beat any other division in football.

I think if you take the records of the teams since the realignment you will see the NFCS is top 3 in record.

I did that a couple years ago and the NFCS was the top division.

Annoyingly so.

If some of the current "blue bloods" played in this division, we wouldn't think of them the same way.

Looking at you Patriots, Green Bay, Seattle, and Steelers.

Seattle is about to be fighting for third place in their division. Rams are loaded and the 49ers might be the breakout team of next season.

That's the difference between the NFCS and let's say the AFCE...if the Pats had this much competition year in and year out: #1 they wouldn't always get the #1 seed, they wouldn't always win their division and at least one of those SBs wouldn't have happened just from a competitive 17 game season when people get injured and the like.  We kill each other before the playoffs.

IIRC the Pats have only won the SB when they were the no. 1 seed, and the playoffs when through Fox.

That wouldn't happen nearly as much were they to play in a decent division, much less a tough one.

I have a love/hate relationship with the competitiveness of this division. Part of me hates you all and wants you to go 0-16 every year, but I also take pride in the NFCS being one of the best divisions in football.

Rest assured, the feeling is mutual :)

    • I like that a lot; Ware from Troy and also Khalil Mack who played at University of Buffalo
    • I remember the Huddle consensus over the course of last season and the previous one. Lots of Bryce is a bust, we should've drafted a 4th slot WR, should've kept Wilks, should've kept an armless Cam, etc etc. So... yea... already thought about that. I wouldn't trust the Huddle to detail my car, let alone run a multi-billion dollar professional sports team. 😛
    • bold prediction, I think Mike Green will be the best pass rusher in this class, and thats even with abdul carter.  He reminds me of demarcus ware, not just in size and prowess, but even coming from a Sunbelt school (Ware from Troy, Green from Marshall).  I think he is passionate about the sport where I think Carter as the physical freak might not have the heart.  Thats the guy Im sold on and am gonna hammer the table for, I know he's not projected 8, but he is projected like 12-13, so if a slide back can happen and we still get the guy I want, I'm 100% on board. All that said, it takes 2 to tango, I think the Cowboys are the tango-er.  IMO theres a VERY good shot that Jeanty is available at 8.  Why does that matter?  Not only do the cowboys NEED a runningback (dak sucks without a run game), but MORE importantly, gee where did Jeanty play in high school.....Frisco TX, literally Dallas Metro.  Soo, RB is a position of need and the best RB and most blue chip draft selection that  could improve the offense immensly played IN dallas metro AND will be in range for them to move up and pick?  Do ya think Jerry Jones is gonna just say no to the Jersey Sales?  Jerry might have sexually assaulted a woman and attempted to prevent black people from going to school, but he's no idiot (he is).  IMO, we get a good enough package, prlly their first and third,  maybe a conditional later and we move to 12.  We get Green, they get Jeanty, everbuddy happy.
