Hurneys big last chance

With a new owner wanting to mold this team into a Steelers type organization and probably wishing to bring in his own people, Hurney has only one chance to save his job and continue on. I have never been a Hurney fan at all. This team needs to really show out strong this year for any hope of Hurney hanging around (also RR may have to look over his shoulder if they sh%t the bed).

Opiniions: Will Hurney hang on if the team does well or is he gone regardless of the 2018 season results

The NFL stands for Not For Long. No one is safe when a new owner comes in unless they perform and that includes front office, coaches and players. There could be this thread about anyone including Cam or Kuechly as well. Cam's dead cap space after this year is simply 8.5 million in 2019 and 2 million in 2020. Not enough to make them untouchable either.

If I am a new owner, I am looking for a guy with an eye for talent--especially if the coach does not, which is the case here.  You can argue both sides with Marty.  However, I look at performance when all chips are on the table.  It is my opinion that he panicked. Started trading away #1s etc.  In addition, he left some positions vacant a lot.  Name a good DT he drafted after Jenkins.........There is not one.  Name his best WR after Moose and Smith?  Free agents?

Ancient history?  We were on a playoff run one year--we won over 10 games that season.  However, toward the end of the season, even though we were weak at the position, he trades away the teams #1 WR, a former first round draft pick, for a third rounder.  In the playoffs, WRs cost us the game.

Was that smart?  I liked the trade, but the timing was awful.

I read somewhere that Hurney, Rivera and Cam are all signed to contracts through 2020. And management, unlike a player, gets all that money if you let them go. This tells me that Tepper, a smart business man and fan of the super stable Steelers, isn't going to upend the apple cart. I suspect no one is getting fired for the next 3 seasons. That, of course, will infuriate some of you. But I don't see him paying someone to not work for him. The business side (president, etc) will likely get positions filled but I don't see him doing anything with those contracts already in place.

You can watch a game and think that a player is terrible, but when the coaches review the film they can see whether he was following his assignments properly and may assign a completely different grade for that player.  In the same vein, we can think a coach or GM is good or bad but are basing that assessment off incomplete knowledge.

I think Tepper is going to come in and evaluate his personnel with the whole story at his command.  He may find that all of Hurney's good ideas came from Ron, or that the stupid mistakes were a result of directives from JR.  He may make his own behind the scenes demands and judge the resulting actions accordingly.

I'm very grateful to JR for getting the Panthers here.  I really like a lot of the things he did over the years, and the public atmosphere he tried to create.  I'm very disappointed in how things turned out and what we learned.  But also, in 25 years with the buck stopping at JR, we've been unable to sustain much success.  I hope Tepper does things a little differently.

And to address the point that Tepper wouldn't want to pay out $10m on a contract to get rid of a coach or a FO person, well when you have a billion dollars that 10 million is just one percent of your net worth, and Tepper has 11 billion.  He probably wouldn't hesitate to take the loss if he thought it would get him on a winning track immediately.

you gotta a pretty mouth.

winning saves jobs. The SB is the goal, but, a winning season long...saves jobs.

That was Jerry Richardson. It's not Tepper.

Everything I've read about Tepper tells me he won't hang on to someone who's performance isn't up to his standards just to save money.

Perhaps. I think there will be additions and changes on the business side. Of course, the football side largely depends on the results but I don't think there will be any shockers anytime soon...barring, of course, total disaster.

NFCCG and Hurney stays

I think replies like this are dumb, seriously nobody gets fired becuase they don’t make the CC game. If anything they get a pat on the back and a raise if they get to the playoffs and win a game.

people on here do not realize how tough it is just to get to the playoffs.
