Devin Funchess may be better than we think

According to PFF, he's the 10th best WR in the league at hauling in contested catches.

The Panthers had trended toward ‘contested catch’ type receivers under former GM David Gettleman and Funchess certainly qualifies as such. He hauled in 14 of his 31 such targets in the most productive season of his career. Maybe more importantly, Funchess didn’t drop a single contested pass last year. Funchess’ first two years in the league were plagued with drops as he whiffed on 14 of his 73 catchable targets over that span (19.2 percent).

Funch is gonna put up solid WR1 numbers this year.

I consider that at least like 1200-1300 and 7 TDs. Don’t really see that happening with Moore in the fold, Olsen back, McC in year two, Byrd and Samuel back, etc. The only player I see on offense putting up big numbers is Cam. The rest have too much competition for targets. Which is a very very good thing for our team.

The thing about WRs is that there are very few true number one WRs in the NFL: Brown, Julio, OBJ, Hopkins and maybe a few more Green, Keenan Allen, Mike Evans, and Michael Thomas are on the cusp

Funch, Samuel and Moore all can be great WRs- probably will never be as good as those top tier guys but I'll take 3 greats for Cam anyday
