This isn't me being an anti-Duke guy because I actually think Wendall Carter is going to be a great big man, but I think Marvin Bagley is massively overrated.

I'm a duke fan and also think Carter is the better pro.

CBS Sports Mock:

Miles Bridges | Michigan St. | Soph | SF

Bridges is a better small-ball power forward than he is a full-time wing. But stressing too much about that is probably overthinking it because the 6-6 sophomore is an explosive athlete who can pass and shoot and guard multiple positions. He averaged 17.1 points and 7.0 rebounds in 31.3 minutes per game while leading Michigan State to the Big Ten regular-season title. In a mostly position-less NBA, I'm comfortable trusting the former Big Ten star will figure things out.

SportingNews Mock:

Collin Sexton, PG, Alabama

Age: 19 | Height: 6-3 | Weight: 190

Like last season, this is a difficult spot for Charlotte. Both Kentucky’s Kevin Knox and Texas Tech’s Zhaire Smith could fit here, as the Hornets have a need on the wing, but selecting Sexton could open up some options.

In the short-term, Sexton could learn under the tutelage of Kemba Walker, or he could reopen conversations centered on trading the veteran point guard. Long-term, Sexton needs to develop as a jump shooter to be a well-rounded scoring threat. His competitiveness and downhill playmaking should earn him floor time until his shot develops.

USA Today Mock:

Collin Sexton

Alabama • Guard • Freshman

Height: 6-3 • Weight: 190

With Kemba Walker's future in Charlotte uncertain, Sexton makes the most sense here. His size for an NBA guard is ideal, and though his outside shooting isn’t where it needs to be nor is he a pass-first guard, his attacking mentality will enhance any backcourt.

NBA.com Mock:

Collin Sexton | Charlotte Hornets

Alabama | Position: PG | Height: 6-2
Status: Freshman
Most Common: 9, 12 (3)

Was second in SEC in scoring (19.2 per game); his toughness and competitive streak are viewed highly by pro evaluators, even drawing comparisons to Russell Westbrook

NBADraft.net Mock:

Kevin Knox

I 100% agree, I think I worded my post wrong. I just don't see Bridges being a good enough shooter at his height for the modern NBA

Think he has any hope of developing it? His form isn't "bad" certainly not a MKG jumper lol

knowing our luck if we draft him he will be a terrible shooter

if some other team drafts him he will be a multiple all star

Trade Kemba for the number 8 if MPJ is there. I think Trae will be solid, though.

Enlighten us with your break down of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and why in the world he can replace Kemba Walker.

I don't think we could replace Kemba. The issue becomes giving a player like Kemba a max deal. It would guarantee us treadmilling especially with all the other contracts we have handed out. Now if we didn't have Batum for $20m or Cody/Marvin/MKG for $10m plus each then we could possibly give Kemba a contract but I feel like we would still be in the exact position we are in.

The idea would be suck with SGA, Monk + another pick and rebuild while not being that successful.

Ok, so fine...how in the world is Shai Gilgeous-Alexander the answer?  He is absolutely terrible.  Cannot score at all, at all.  Knox is a better passer at SF and he (SGA) doesn't even have a good handle.  Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is terrible.  You people see 6'6 PG and think he can play...SMH.  Anyone but him.  He is no where near as good as MCW.  Let that sink in.

I agree that SGA might not be the answer. I am just looking for complementary players. I really don't see Monk as a PG but if our new coach sees him as a PG type like Curry who isn't really a PG then I have no problems looking elsewhere. I think Cliff preached size so much that I am just looking for a tall PG who can guard the SG while Monk could guard the PG on defense.

Now, I do think SGA is better than you are saying but to be fair I only watched 3-4 Kentucky games near the end of the year and he seemed to always show out.

I'll admit to not having watched basically ANY college basketball this season, for the first time maybe ever.

I don't know any of these names.  I just sincerely hope that the person (looking at you, MJ) who has made the majority of our picks in the past steers clear of the war room this year.  I'm hoping Cho had a bigger hand in things than we know...

Well, every year we have a small bit of hope and optimism and unfortunately every year since the return of the Hornets to Charlotte we have been disappointed. In saying that I do feel like we can get a good player.

I am leaning towards Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. I feel like he would be a good complement with Malik Monk, which is our future.

Who do you all want?

Agreed.  This could change but right now I am between him, Knox, and Bridges (the one from Nova)

    • his height, size and arm will forever cause problems and limitations...that is what it is.  I think to a degree, the law of averages is just coming into play a bit with him.  So as he plays more and more, you just flat out get the decent days mixed in too.  Which is just going to happen.
    • Good point. He's definitely better in 10-15 yards. I think that's his biggest improvement. But he wasn't 3-10 +15, he was 3-7, with at least one drop (minor but still). And with multiple passes at 14 yards completed. This passing chart doesn't look like at By one, lol. He threw more "deep" passes than Mahomes (NOT comparing him to Mahomes in a skill way lol), or at least more beyind 10 yards.
    • Karlaftis and Danna have been pretty inconsistent so teams have been doubling Jones and able to contain their pass rush.   But the good thing is that yesterday, we schemed well against Steve Spags Defense, Canales married the surrounding personnel with his QB through play designs within his comfort zone and was able to get downfield at will.  He was able to execute higher difficulty throws and look a lot more comfortable.  It tells me that Canales has a good system in mind, and had an edge gameplanning wise against Spagnuolo - which is nice to see.  It's a bit to see-saw at times with either going way too pass heavy or way too run heavy, but I think he's finding out what works.  It takes time to have it come together, and sure, I could see regression happen against a better front-7, but this was good for the entire system gelling.
