NFL Rookie News: Rookie DT Lowell Lotulelei Retires; Christian Kirk Arrested For Throwing Rocks @ A Golf Tourney

It's the offseason, and things happen.

One of these things happens to include a certain family member of a former Carolina Panther. Lowell Lotulelei - a UDFA rookie - apparently retired after the Broncos waived him.

In all frankness, I'm surprised. I think he could be a decent run-stuffer like his brother. I guess things aren't working out.

In other news, former Carolina mocked WR Christian Kirk also was arrested earlier this year. Apparently, this info was just made public, and the Cardinals were aware of it pre-draft. Basically, he acted like any other guy at the Phoenix Open, got drunk, and trashed the place.

Kirk and some friends were seen throwing rocks at cars outside the golf tournament on Feb. 3. He was charged with disorderly conduct and proper damage and the case is pending.

...

In post-draft press conferences, General Manager Steve Keim said the Cardinals paid special attention this year to character when drafting players. There were no reports of Kirk ever getting into trouble in high school or college.

New coach Steve Wilks has said several times that he wants players who possess the right DNA.

“We don’t want a bunch of choir boys, I’m not saying that,” Wilks said recently. “But we want to make sure we got quality football players coming into the building. We’re not going to worry about getting a phone call in the middle of the morning that someone out in Scottsdale is doing something crazy.”

I guess Christian Kirk didn't raise that many red flags despite the arrest. We'll see if it works out.

Again, an NFL player is arrested every 7 days.  The new owner has a chance to shock the world and put our Super Bowl efforts into overdrive by resigning our franchise DE to the horror of the other 31 and hypocrites everywhere.

Deandre Hopkins covered a hotel room in his own poo right before the draft. Still went first round and has had a good career.

You’ve clearly never been to the Phoenix Open before. There is WAY worse going on there than throwing rocks

Yet the man spent at least the entire day yesterday on the right side of ESPN’s main page as the very “top headline”-HE (his June fight opponent) still draws that interest.  And of course the uninformed still make up the vast majority.

    • I think that had his knees been in good shape, he would have been extended by now.  My opinion is based on the fact that they do not to seem very confident about his knees, so should we?  On the other hand, all veterans are playing with some chronic injury of some sort, so how much weight do you give it?  And in today's market, Moton's salary is not overblown.  Unless your concern becomes a problem, you stay the course, I would think.  But Moton will probably not be our tackle when we are a playoff team, so the time to start grooming his successor is probably this year.
    • The Athletic FS had a Panthers fan write in about Mykel vs Jalon. Derrick K was surprisingly in favor of Mykel but gave a pretty compelling argument. You’re getting a baseline great run defender with some nice pass rush potential. You’re not getting the hyper athletic, violent, burst off the snap type, but he’s a grinder who can maintain a great level of play throughout a game. He’s the ideal type to eventually have paired with the more peppy/athletic edge rusher. No one says to avoid a 1B just because you don’t have or can’t find a 1A. And who knows, he could still become a double digit sack guy. 86” wingspan is monster. With Jalon, you’re using him as an EDGE. So you’re banking him fitting a super rare spot, that only Parsons has really followed through at. Myles Jack and others just didn’t work out as well. They mentioned you may just be getting a shorter Luvu-plus rather than a Parsons-lite.  Mykel at 8 will not surprise me in the least, and it could be a solid move.
