Serious: What will Tepper do with Hurney?

not sure what he'll do with hurney, but tepper was born on Sept 11th, so I can guarantee you he'll force hurney to get rid of the 2nd leg of our twin tower duo in Funch (KB collapsed last year)

too soon?

Not too soon, just stupid.

Fingers crossed that he will recognize the mediocrity at the HC and GM positions and can them both and, ideally, you do both at the same time, then hire a GM and the GM hires you a HC that doesn't break out in hives at the thought of scoring.

But, unfortunately, its way too late in the league year to hire a HC, so you ride the year out then rid yourself of the mediocrities that were the former owners "family".

Not shocking. I think most didn't expect him to come in and fire everybody the day he took over.

The question will be what happens after he's had time to see them up close and see how they perform this season.

I've been reading up on Tepper, and I can't seem to find anything about him that indicates he is a megalomaniac, and would come in and start slashing. He is a bit egotistical from some article POV, but that makes sense considering his success. I will also point out that a lot of articles read he celebrates his own success and Appaloosa, as opposed to people he has worked with or were influential on his decisions.

With that being said..... You have to understand that Tepper is a business man, and understands the process of acquisition. He has acquired many companies with his hedge and this won't be his first rodeo. You could say that this is different because it is a multi-billion dollar business, but he was a minority owner of the Steelers and witnessed how it operates, and most likely came away with some ideas that he would do differently than Rooney.

To assume he would come in a start cutting people right out of the gate is pretty far fetched. You are a new owner, and you are coming into a business you just acquired, you want your employees to feel safe and honored to work for you. Considering his personality type, it doesn't appear he would want to create a hostile environment with this business. That's actually a frowned upon business practice as is. If the Panthers were struggling (along the lines of profitability) then yes you make those cuts. However, that isn't the case here.

Most likely scenario:

Omar K. comes in as the new president, and he becomes the one who makes the personnel decisions, and who they are replaced by. However, that doesn't occur this year. He will want his first year of ownership be celebrated as opposed to egg shell walking. Also, with the media attention the franchise has had this past year, you will want to let it cool down, before making splash moves as being discussed here.

I get most of the posts in this thread, but you have to think of this from a business perspective instead of a football perspective.  Firing anyone right out of the gate, means more work for him, instead of him getting in and observing the operation of the franchise in it's current state.

Expect some holes to be filled in the FO, but don't expect holes to be created until 2019. That's bad for business.

This is really what's going on.  Hurney was fired by Richardson because he didn't have an answer for our slow start.  That's not acceptable if you're in charge.  Since he has been back, he's been doing a fairly good job at setting the Panthers back on track.  One of the very first things Tepper is likely to do, if he has not already, is to actually sit Hurney down for an interview to get a better idea of his philosophies, the direction he's taking the team, etc...  IF (big if) Hurney has no vision to communicate, then he's gone immediately.  But it's far more likely he does and that Tepper will be watching the season unfold carefully to get a handle on how well Hurney is driving.

If we have a great season, it's likely Hurney will be back for year 2 under Tepper.  If we don't but the vision/plan was executed to a T, then there's a scenario where Tepper brings in a consultant and tells Hurney to go in another direction, again with Hurney back in year 2.  I don't think it's likely, but it could happen.  And regardless of how our season goes, if we don't win the Super Bowl and at the same time Hurney doesn't look like he's in control and executing his plan, then he's probably gone.

People love to rain crap all over Hurney, but the buck has never stopped with him.  And while we can guess, none of us know how well he's really doing the job he's been given.  His job is not just to win games, it's to do it the way he's told.  We've been a ground and pound team since inception.  Every head coach we've had was a DC.  It's always about ball control and TOP.  That identity didn't come from the GM, it came from the GM who was executing the vision he was told to.  It's entirely possible that the reason Hurney is well thought of in Pittsburgh is that he did a great job building what JR wanted, and accepted the failure for JR when it didn't produce the results.

This season should be really interesting.  I don't think we'll have to wait until it's over to see Tepper's influence start to show, but I also don't think that there will be an immediate and assumed shake-up.

Another thought--if Hurney goes, so does Rivera.  RR was JR's guy as well.

Just FYI JR never fired Hurney.  He quit because he felt he was not doing a good enough job.  Or so that was what everyone said at the time.

What's actually come out since is that Richardson wanted to fire Rivera. Hurney agreed to be fired instead.

More than one source has confirmed this.

Impressive way to fall on the sword, and the Panthers benefitted at the time because of that decision. Hurney is doing well this time around (so far) and should get a shot to continue in his role. Obviously, if things go south, he will not have the luxury of the benefit of the doubt because he is not Tepper's guy.
