Serious: What will Tepper do with Hurney?

The time frames to watch will be post-season and post-draft.  Post season is of course when GM and coaching changes tend to get made, and post draft is when scouting staff shakeups tend to happen.

Sure, changes could happen sooner. I just don't expect them to.

I think it will be a transition rather than a house cleaning. Despite this boards disdain, Hurney has some good qualities that would be useful to a new owner.  But I suspect he will be leaving soon and his role will diminish.

I don't know what he will do.  I hope whatever he does is performance based and not politics based.

not sure what he'll do with hurney, but tepper was born on Sept 11th, so I can guarantee you he'll force hurney to get rid of the 2nd leg of our twin tower duo in Funch (KB collapsed last year)

Hurney is safe. Tepper has been a Panther and Hurney fan for a while.

If I work at BoA, i'd probably be getting my resume polished.

Probably lots of evals going on in a short amount of time and for people whose positions were given and kept based on loyalty other than performance, i wouldn't be feeling all that comfortable.

I'd say GM would probably be heading out the door before the coaches would. if we were dealing with a GM with a solid track record of success, maybe...but this is hurney and while he's done ok with his re-emergence as GM, he's not been good enough to overcome the wishes of a new owner who probably has his own GM in mind.

i'm sure tepper has been looking toward this moment for a long time and has already talked to staff people he'd like to have working for him.

Yep. There's the people out front and the people behind the scenes.

I'm of the belief that the people everybody sees out front aren't going anywhere until after this season. Beyond this year, I'm more confident about Rivera staying than Hurney, but anything can happen.

As far as the rest, we've actually got some unfilled slots. Will people be hired for those spots this year or next? Unknown.

It's all uncharted territory from here on out.

Teams changing ownership isn't so rare it's uncharted territory.  It's happened 3 times this decade. I wonder how these things were approached in those situations.

Like most on here have said, I think hurney will be gone after the season, and I don't think that's fully fair since I think hurney has done an alright job given the situation faced.  That said, I don't think Rivera is going anywhere if we make the playoffs or even barely miss while due to injuries this year.  If tepper does follow how the Rooneys operate, having stability at coach is a big deal.

I'm going to say he goes soon. I know the typical timing is after the season but honestly that doesn't make sense to me. If he has someone in mind, why wait? We just finished the draft and we have the 90 man roster in place. Bring in his guy and let him get his staff in place for next year's free agency and draft. Also, gives the new GM a season to evaluate Ron and his staff.

I think it’s simple given Tepper temperament: he puts every single person from ball boy to coach to players on a this season tryout regardless of contract or loyalty. People like Cam and Luke have little to fear but others like Rivera and staff do, while front office should be polishing resumes barring a huge 14 win season and some hardware. 

 

I think he is going to clean house and set the tone early. This is a common method to doing that while not torpedoing this years season. He can give Rivera and top players warm fuzzies in private.
