Serious: What will Tepper do with Hurney?

What gave you the impression I'm in favor of it?

It's a possibility. It's also possible nothing comes of it.

One thing that people always seem to have trouble with in this forum: Telling the difference between a discussion of what could happen from a suggestion of what should.

you just seemed to be repeatidly bringing it up after I dismissed it twice. so to me that seems that youre in favor of it, but even then youre stretching it out a bit at that.

I'm not in favor of Rivera being fired at this point, or Cam being let go, or Luke being traded, or blah blah blah...

I do, however, acknowledge their possibility.

There is absolutely no reason for Tepper to keep Hurney when the sale is approved.  There will be no audition for Hurney with Tepper.  He will bring his guy asap.

The entire FO is on notice.

The coaching staff is safe for now.  After the season however it's judgement day.

If we make the playoffs and win at least 1 game in the playoffs I think everyone is safe. Many on here would want Hurney gone even if he delivers us a super bowl this year. It’s pretty much a fantasy to think he or Rivera will be fired if they have a good year and stupid fantasy at that.

I wouldn't go that far, but I would say this: Tepper doesn't strike me as  the type to leave somebody in place just because it's easier than replacing them.

I expect people are going to have to justify their employment, and that's going to be a culture shock from Jerry Richardson. Richardson was known to overpromote people that were loyal to him. Don't really see that happening under Tepper.

Heck, it wouldn't be a surprise if there are people currently employed who decide to look for work elsewhere because they just don't want to work for Tepper.

(mind you, I don't see Hurney or Rivera being among those folks)

I’d bet the current COO, Tina, and majority of the front office is gone within the month. I believe he’ll give Hurney this season, but it wouldn’t surprise me if he’s gone before the months over, as well. Rivera and the staff will be safe until the end of the season.

Rivera better not wait too late to go Riverboat...

I'm pretty sure Tepper has done his homework on the entire organization before he placed his bid.  There will be no need for anyone to justify their position with him, he already knows what he needs to.

Remember, part of the bid process was to present their proposal of their vision for the team.  I'm sure his wasn't simply to win titles.  He would have thought about everything, including who will fill out his FO.  I'm betting that they aren't already on staff.

How likely do you think it is that Marty Hurney will be fired in the next few weeks? Is it typical for new owners to clean house right away or do the GMs get a grace year?

David Tepper didn't become worth $11 billion by being an idiot. Hurney has been fired the second he knew he was going to win the bid. You don't make $11 billion by surrounding yourself with incompetent people. Enjoy the year Hurney because you'll never have another GM job in the league after this season. Just like he didn't get one single interview from any team after he was originally fired.

If there's one person whose fate seems to be universally agreed upon by everyone I've seen comment on it, it's Tina Becker.

She gone...

Hurney will get the year, especially if these draft picks work out immediately and the team goes far. But any regression or 1st round exits from the playoffs and Hurney is done.

On most accounts Hurney got to see this coming and is the reason he's made as many feasible moves as possible to get talent around Cam.

Hurney has made all the right moves to field a competitive team this season. I would hope he is given this season to see how he does.

He was fired before for sucking. But we rehired him and has done a good job so far. He’s given Cam more weapons then he’s ever had in his career and thus far hasn’t broken the bank on anyone unworthy of it.

Personally id like to give him this year.

Tepper wouldn't pay for All Pro.

I won't either. :)

Hurney will be here this year. It'd be stupid to fire a GM this time of year and Tepper isn't stupid. Remember Richardson with Gettleman? He'll be given a chance. However, I do expect a different way of thinking going forward. Starting with those 1 year prove-it contracts. That started Marty down the road to cap hell before and I can see it happening again. I do expect shake ups in the FO and scouting department but no sudden blood bath. I expect wisdom and business acumen not head hunting.
