Serious: What will Tepper do with Hurney?

Recommended Posts

I don't know if it'll be soon, but I don't expect Hurney to stick past this season unless we have something along the lines of a Super Bowl winning year.

It's not strictly about performance. Nobody is more closely associated with Jerry Richardson than Marty Hurney. Heck, the NFL has already urged the Panthers to dump Hurney once.

Plus, to be honest, @Woodie is right. Tepper really doesn't come off like the kind of guy who'd spend two billion on something and just leave it as is. Seems more likely he's gonna put his own stamp on it and maybe soon.

Yeah, it's possible Hurney sticks, but it's not something I'd bet on.

If we don’t make a strong run I expect Tepper to clean house and bring in his people. Not just because I’m sure he’d like to do that but also to thoroughly wash away the stink of this whole #metoo situation we have going on inside the organization.

I'd say this is the single most important year of Hurney's career in football. If he can put a playoff team on the field I imagine if he isn't here next year he will be sought by other teams and rightfully so.

4 minutes ago, Doc Holiday said:

He will get his guy after this season more than likely.

there is going to be a turn over period but Tepper didn’t spend 2bill on a team to just watch it as a fan.

Said it elsewhere: He could still bring on his own people this season by putting them in open positions like team president.

Zero chance of coaching changes, but adding people to the front office is possible without firing anyone.

I think it's highly likely that Hurney gets the boot, even after a Championship. Maybe even prior to the first kickoff. What better time for the new GM to get up to speed with the team, than to come on board before the season starts after the offseason legwork has been done.

Tepper will see Hurney's tenure in the past, as well as one year not being indicative of building a Super Bowl team. He will want his guy, that he knows will get the job done how he wants it. Hurney is not that guy.
