Observer's Rodrigue on rookie camp & other stuff

Straight from questions from the Charlotte Observer's mailbag, here are a few things that may help give you a bigger (perhaps clearer) picture. Here is my shortened version of her takes.

1. Marquise Haynes made an impression. "He already moves like a pro in drills."

2. Moore looks and moves like a legitimate NFL receiver. He is "sure-handed" and confident. He knows the playbook.

3. Charlotte's own Kalif Phillips is another running back to watch. The tryout player made an impression among coaches with his power, and soft hands.

4. Though Elijah Hood appeared rusty with the timing of handoffs, he is more dynamic than some give him credit for. 

5. The Silatolu talk at LG is probably just that. Look for Moton and Larsen to be the real competition for the job.

6. Tepper is not moving the team. He probably won't move much of anything before at least seeing how this season plays out.

Completely hypothetical here but I wonder if Tepper having no intention to move the team has anything to do with the Rooney’s (Steelers owner) respect for JR and not wanting to ruin his legacy (or what is left of it) in the Carolinas. 

The smart business move you usually see is the new owner threatening it even if they have no intention just to get more money out of the city. Good to see that is being squashed up front.

I doubt that the Steelers relationship has anything to do with it. I also believe that he is the type that would still threaten it if necessary, when he starts licking his chops about a domed stadium (and I did say "when").

If Tepper decides to build a new stadium out in the suburbs it will be a colossal mistake. Is it possible a roof could be added on to the current stadium? One of the main reasons BoA is so great is taking in the Charlotte vibes on game days. Plenty of tailgating spots and bars/restaurants to hit up before or after games. Prime time games in Charlotte are one of my favorite nights of the year. Being able to get a hotel uptown and walk to the games makes for an awesome time. Having a huge domed stadium out in the middle of nowhere will crush the Panthers experience IMO. The ticket prices will no longer be justifiable. Just my two cents.

I believe that it's technically possible to add a dome. Wasn't it discussed before the last renovation?

While it is technically possible to add on a roof, the structural engineering would make it incredibly expensive (think about additional supports that will have to be sunk into the bedrock through the existing stadium walls) and the time it would take to complete it would be more than just an offseason.

If a domed stadium is in the offing, just hope that it is in the suburbs rather than in another state/region. Best plan would to build one in nearby small town area with tons of parking, perhaps take over an industrial park area that never took off. Then demolish the current stadium and use for higher end development within the city (another skyscraper or two).

No, it doesn't have anything to do with the Rooney's.  It has to do with the fact that it makes no financial sense to move the team.  This team is too profitable, has too big a market area, and too strong of a fan base for a move to make any sense. 

The fear of a move is only fan-driven paranoia and nervousness.  There has never been a real threat to move the team...every single one of the bidders along with the NFL itself has publicly stated that the team belongs in Charlotte.  Moving the team is not an issue whatsoever.

The idea of a domed stadium isn't a slam dunk. I can tell you as a PSL owner I won't be buying more PSLs to a new stadium or even going if my PSLs become useless. I hope he can find 70,000 rabid fans with big pockets besides current PSL owners because I doubt most feel differently than I do. Right now if we go 1-15 or 16-0 he can count on sellouts every week because PSL owners have to pay the ticket prices or lose their PSLs. Unless the new stadium included PSLs and the same deal, there is no guarantee the stadium will sell out if we have a few down years. Plus I won't be paying higher prices for tickets food and parking. Someone else might but it won't be me......

I agree completely. The home game experience in Charlotte is wonderful. Our weather is typically football weather most of the fall. Dome is not necessary. But if it had to be added I’m just going the current stadium isn’t too dated to me adapted to one.
