Panthers HC Ron Rivera said QB Garrett Gilbert is the leader to be the team's No. 2 quarterback.

Gilbert hasn't thrown a pass in the regular season. Unless it's a motivating tactic, this means the Panthers are unlikely to re-sign free agent QB Derek Anderson. Taylor Heinicke will also compete for the backup job behind Cam Newton in camp.

I like the change up, we need somebody to push & help Cam in the accuracy department.

He just needs to improve it by 5-7% and he will be over 4,000 + yds easily

Well if the backup is bad I'd rather it be a younger guy who MAY have room to improve than DA.

In a best case situation, we get to send him out at the end of three games where we're blowing out the competition. Maybe he'll be great. There's the potential for an upside with him. DA, while a great guy in the locker room and the sideline, has pretty much reached the end of his serviceable playing days.

I am really interested to see what Kyle Allen can offer next year.  He is going to need a season in the weight room and time to digest the system, but he has potential.

 

Hope he makes the practice squad.
