50 or so catches for 500+ yds and 5 TDs? No. But 20-25 for 300 and a TD or two with some impact plays/key conversions in there? I could see that. I think his blocking ability will actually be the bigger asset this season.

I see 500 + yd or more with Norvs scheme & playcalling paired with the skill players on the roster, he can stretch defenses in every direction. This could leads to more explosive plays. Similar to Saints aggressive style under Payton.

Name a TE in San Diego other than Gates.

Yeah that's what I been tryna convey. Air Coryell systems really only utilize one pass catching tightend like Gates/Winslow and one more like a blocker.(Thomas in this case).

Two tightend system use both tightend more as pass catchers and blockers at the same time ala Gronk/Hernandez and Olsen/Shockey in Cam rookie year.

So what system is Norv gonna run?

Olsen and his teammates are just beginning their offseason break, but everyone has already thought about the transition that lies ahead.

It shouldn’t be too difficult for someone like Olsen, especially considering the position he plays.

“What he’s done with tight ends in the past is pretty impressive,” Olsen said.

As for the offense in general, the transition should be a seamless one since Shula and Rob Chudzinkski (Carolina’s OC from 2011-12) both ran a variation of Turner’s system.

“As far as the concepts and terminology and stuff, there is a ton of carryover,” said Olsen, who knows Carolina’s offense as well as anyone. “But just like when we transitioned from Chud to Shula, play-callers each have their own unique styles and preferences. I’m sure there will be transition as far as that goes, but the overall concepts and overall approach for the offense is very similar. I think that’s a positive and it’s a lot easier than starting from scratch. That gives us a leg up.”

His competition is also CMC and expect him to be more involved in the passing game.

2017: 651 yds 5TDs

2018: 800 yds ?

WR group is gonna have legit competition and depth from top down is going to one of the best.

The mid round rookies  actually have the ability to make a bigger impact if you factor in scheme and depth.

I’ll say it for the millionth time,Panthers run the ball 50% of the time which means 2nd TE is gonna be involved in the play.

Ian Thomas mindset should be that be option  #1B not 2

True, but i was pointing out how he will probably be on the field the whole time.  CMC will be a factor in the passing game.  And that will effect the WRs but will also effect the #2 TE as far as options in the pass game.

Also the mindset of us running the ball.

1. Just because you run the ball doesnt mean your going to keep a #2 TE on the field the whole time.  When you put out a #2 TE.  Your A. Going single WR which is your jumbo or goal line package.  Which is going to be 3rd/4th and very short or short on the goal line.  B. The other option is replacing the FB.  And for a run heavy team youll see more FB packages which means less time youll see the TE2 on the field.

Plus Ian Thomas's biggest weakness IS blocking.  So leaves even more reason he wont see the field as often as a Moore (who will be the #1 or #2 WR)

Ian Thomas will make a impact though because I do expect a decent dosage of TE2 sets.  More so in the passing game.  The TE2 can still help pass block, make a chip block and run a shorter route for Cam to get it to if the other options are covered

Well if you want to pass you gotta be able to protect QBs, and none better than TE aligned to a OT or as lined up as a FB which Ian did in college.

In my opinion I see Panthers going with base backage that they can run from maybe having either  2 TEs or TE & 2 RBs. The parts I see most rotating in and out are the WRs based on matcup and distance & down situation.

My whole turn on with 2 TE and 2 RB set is that you can go run or pass play in same formation without subsitution & with CMC and Anderson as your HBs whom both can motion out you can basically do anything with audibles.

In this formation I would sub the FB for a WR out wide.

Hopefully Ian Thomas can do it. I've heard that he has been more impressive as a route runner and pass catcher than some expect.

Another 4,000 yard season for Cam coming up.

I agree it coulbe be like  2015 situation where Cam distrubes the ball more evenly!

Also one other thing to note.

Moore has already shown something in just the first day of mini camp which still makes me confident that Moore is going to be the biggest impact.

Since #89 has left we havnt had a WR who's smart and knows how to help the QB.

The comback grab.

No WR we've had in a long while were really good at reading whats going on and making a nice comback catch when the QB is in trouble.

Yeah KB would be nice where Cam could lob it up.  But while Moore isnt 6'4.  But 6'0 210 with a 39.5 vert and mentality to fight for the ball is big.  Plus knows when to comeback and help the QB.  Anquan Boldin was known as a Smaller guy and he was only 1 inch taller and 5 pounds heavier than Moore.

And to top it off, our new OC drooled and begged for Moore this whole draft process.  So he is going to see the field a Lot and going to get the ball.

No way your putting that formation out unless its the goal line and short.

Your keeping 2 WRs out the whole game.

I see 60% of the packages 2 TEs this year, Nd the other 40% 1 TE and a FB

Another way to look at it is If CAM has more weapons which means he can ramp his throwing production and more explosive plays. I could see him having  4,200 yds.

I dont know the % usage but it will be used the most out of all other packages.

The point of having 2 RBs or 2 TEs is that they are essentially recievers that can do other stuff on offense.

Like CMC and Anderson

CMC 2017: 600 yds  5 TDs

Anderson 2017: 224 yds
