A younger, more forward thinking GM and coach is definitely going to be in the cards.

The GM can fairly easily be replaced, yesterday please, but the HC and assistants could be hard to fill at this late date in the off season.  January would be much better.  I"ve liked Rivera for the most part but change should usher him on his way then.

I think the first thing he should do is sacrifice a chicken at the 50 yard line to show how hardcore and un-southern he is.

No. He must consume an entire pound of livermush at mid field. Chased by a quart of Wilkes County Moonshine. Only then will he be "one of us"

If he comes in and fires Rivera he is an idiot, and say what we will, he is no idiot

alot will depend on how this season plays out

JR is as stubborn as they come...this is not over yet

Rivera has a year, at least.  You can't fire a coaching staff in May.

Hurney and the front office people are more vulnerable, but I still think they'll get this season to audition too.

As a financial savant, I expect a more analytical approach to the draft and free agency.

What exactly is a "forward thinking" GM or Coach

Not a Hurney fan because, in my opinion, he was stupid in free agency when he had about $80m and then he started mortgaging the future in the draft to save his job by trading away first rounders like New Orleans did this year to grab a boom or bust candidate.  Without then "Lame Duck" Fox and staff in his ear, he drafted Clausen, A. Edwards, and Eric Norwood, a 3-4 OLB.  He has no real eye for talent because he never coached or played--not that you have to, but I think he does what coaches and scouts tell him, which is why RR wanted him here.

This year, I give Hurney an A for his first 4 picks.  I think all will be regular contributors out of the gate.  Then he seemed to go a bit rogue--time will tell--as if the defensive coaches found pictures of him in disguise at Chucky Cheese.

We think so.

Haynes is a good college player, but is he Robert Mathis or Eric Norwood? Then he started reverting back to taking players that may have been reaches.  The 2 LBs, for example, probably would have been there in the seventh round.  I like the 7th round pick, Norton.  He may sit on the PS for 2 seasons, but you may have something in the end.

So all in all, he did pretty well.  Good enough to keep his job?  That remains to be seen.  If Moore catches 32 passes for 402 yards, not good.  If he catches 70 balls for 800 yards, good.  Jackson is a higher risk CB than maybe some others that were available.  Will Searcy and Adams make fans wish he had taken the S earlier?  Still, I do not see much downside to the first 4 picks--if they all pan out, good draft.

Hurney? Probably.

Rivera? Possibly.

I think Hurney could sign Brady at league minimum and folks would still be hating on him.

Canning Rivera? Yeah, making the playoffs 4/5 years really sucks.

4 of 7 since arriving. I don't think that's bad at all.

Is it your opinion that Hurney's record is so outstanding he deserves applause?

Hurney was terrible before, and no, he doesn't get credit for last season. It's still on him to prove he's worth keeping.

But again, it may not matter.

Nobody is more closely associated with Jerry Richardson than Marty Hurney. That, plus the fact that the SI accuser said team executives knew about his actions and did nothing doesn't bode well for his chances.

Could Hurney wind up staying? Sure. I wouldn't bet on it, though.

I also don't think Tepper will want a new stadium anytime soon, I think that's Sabates talking out of his ass (again). Tepper is a billionaire who drove a rusty minivan to work, he doesn't believe in flashing his wealth and prides himself on extrating as much value as he can out of his assets. He'll see the current stadium as having tons of value and will look to get as much mileage as possible out of it.

For all we know Tepper has watched how the Steelers work and plans to do it differently. Tepper is an aggressive guy, he bought the Enron stock... no sure he's a "sit around and wait for things to develop" man.

He might, but what is there to suggest that?  Granted, it's all conjecture at this point, but the suggestion he'll follow the Steelers method isn't just a random thought.  It's logical to think that's what he'd do based on what we know.

We'll see what happens.

I'd add that the kind of aggressive, impatient nature you're talking about here probably doesn't bode well for people currently running the team if they don't produce immediate, impressive results.

Tepper isn't necessarily the one you have to worry about.  The driving force behind a lot of new stadium pushes has been the NFL itself.

Whether Tepper would be on board with that?  Unknown, but it is true that a new stadium with paid parking and such could be a big revenue source and Charlotte leaders seem willing to pony up.  That's something to think about.
