dj moore is raising more red flags than the coast during hurricane season to me

He needs work running routes.  OK.  But he has elite athleticism, is very competitive, and carried the passing offense in a way few receivers can.

In his early years, he's going to be a slot and off the LOS guy who makes more plays after the catch.  As he gets better at his technique (look at what Taylor has done for Devin Funchess), then he will make more vertical plays.  While some like to say that Ridely is more polished, Ridely is also much older, and should be more polished since he's had more time to play that Moore.

I will say that you are in the minority.  Hopefully you are proved wrong and Moore is a successful NFL WR who helps us get over the hump and win the SB soon.

Doesn’t really matter, we have Loads of other weapons if he busts. That’s always a possibility, Ridley could be.

”most NFL ready to play”=== Bust

”great growth potential” === bust

They all can

am i the only one who thinks moore is going to be one of the top wide receivers in the league next season?

We have to many weapons for that to happen I'm thinking more like the 2015 season everybody eats like 3 wr with 75 ish Greg with 60-80 CMC with 40-50 per game. I'm hoping he leads the league in yac or atleast the rookie wr.

Panthers scouts wanted Ridley. Time will tell.

Glad they don't have the final say so.

looking at his film is a dumb thread, yeah, it's way better than the other rancid poo on the board right now at least. once again, it's like you think i want him to bust.

No offense as your are clearly a serious fan but I think I’ll go with Norv and Steve Smith’s evaluations

if you want to see busts, look at the film of the Panthers and Saints playoff game in which the only chance we had was if Newton could throw it to himself and catch it. Worst group of WRs in the NFL

Considering he had horrible qbs, played against good big 10 cornerbacks and defenses, was the only weapon on offense thus the defenses always planned against him I wouldn’t worry that much.

no offense but I’m sure our paid experienced scouts know more about the guy than you do. Steve smith may not be a scout but when he calls out a player to be his replacement then it probably means a little something.

many good NFL wide receivers weren’t good route runners in college. It’s something that takes time, practice and good coaching.

a lot of his plays were short passes and screens. This is because he is a player who makes plays after the catch. He will be used the same here.

i know everyone here is high on moore. i was as well, but looking at some film and at his stats plus taking into account the defenses he played were awful, i'm worried. he has a much higher bust potential than y'all realize. im one of the bigger homers here and even i can see it now. dj moore is like a less athletic tavon austin based on what ive seen. take the penn state game for example:

first play is a screen pass which goes for 4. okay, thats fine. next play is some gadget bullshit that loses 10 yards. the play after that is.. another screen.. next play is incomplete, and guess what, another fuging screen after that. his route tree is awful. literally awful. it isn't anything but screens and slants. you cant even call it a route tree. he doesnt have a gain over 10 yards untill maryland is down 21-0. as a matter of fact, that is another area of concern for me. garbage time stat padding. notice how many of his highlights come from his team being down multiple scores? yeah, i did too. but you know what? maybe this is just a bad game, a fluke. Let's look at another game instead.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jhOQLGZIYjY

first catch is a screen. reinforcing narratives here. disappears for 2 snaps, then shows up and is covered well on a batted pass. disappears completely for a while again , as maryland falls behind 21-0. incomplete on a corner route. next play is a gadget play, reinforcing the tavon austin comparison. next play is a simple flat route which goes for a gain of like 8, his best play of the game outside of the gadget pass. next play is a screen. this gets really repitive doesn't it? screens, slants and one (1) flat route are the only successful routes i have seen him run. that isn't what we need, we need seperation. after a few plays of him being a ghost again, being targetted but covered like a blanket, or incompletions by the bad qb play, he makes a great catch but it only goes for like 5. another slant screen type play for a first but only 4 yards or so. next is another slant screen which is stuffed. and thats it.

gonna get poo'd to hell and back but i really dont care, im concerned as hell about this pick here.

Much like Devin Funchess looked terrible playing with Devin Gardner at Michigan.

I literally see NOTHING wrong with this game. If anything it reinforces that he has the ability to run through soft tackles and gang tackle attempts.

Did Norv like Moore over Ridley or was it a Hurney pick?

I don't think we'll ever know, but it sure seems that way as Hurney and Rivera said that the Panthers thought Moore was more explosive after the catch. Being that Norv was notably all smiles when he worked Moore out, I think that's a good indicator.

In any event, 89 likes him, and Greg Cosell said that "DJ Moore Fits Norv Turner's Scheme Better Than Calvin Ridley."

I also think that Calvin is probably on top of his game now, but Moore’s ceiling still hasn’t been seen yet.
