Had this guy played at San Jose State instead of UNC, nobody would be celebrating the addition of a camp body.

this would be valid if we were stacked at RB but we aren't and Hood has a very good chance of making this team...

You could’ve simply said, “Sorry y’all, I have a massive inferiority complex because hardly anyone outside of 100 miles of ECU even knows it exists and the few who do just know it as that school you go to if you can’t get in anywhere else.”

This has nothing to do with ECU.

However, maybe you're still salty about the 70-41 thrashing in Greenville, or 55-31 thrashing in Chapel Hill the last 2 times the teams have met.

This has to do with a college RB who didn't live up to the immense hype coming out of HS... was a practice squad player for the RAIDERS... and now all of a sudden is going to make the Panthers, who just picked up CJ Anderson.  The chardonnay must be hitting the Wal-Heels early today.

Quite frankly, you all sound like App fans did re: Armanti Edwards... but at least he was drafted in the top half of the draft.

The kid has talent and potential. I still think CAP is a lot more talented than people give him credit for.

with the addition of CJ Anderson and experience of CAP and Fozzy I don’t see him making the team unless an injury occurs. Sure he could surprise us all and end up out playing everyone and make the team but realistically I just see him as a future practice squad player with potential to be more.

Let’s say he does make the team, then that means CAP is cut. We wouldn’t keep CAP and Hood because they are both similar types instead we would keep Fozzy and CAP/Hood. Yes I do believe we will keep 4 rb and a fb this season. So basically it will come down to CAP vs Hood. CAP has experience with our system and team as well as an established relationship with the coaches. So imo CAP has the advantage over Hood.

It has everything to do with you being salty. There’s a diehard NC State fan in this thread happy we picked up Hood.

Well, thanks. For some reason I was thinking that he was a UDFA. The fact that he was actually drafted day three is more of a reason to believe that Hood and CAP may end up closer than people think (if the coaches are actually comparing the two from a roster spot perspective, which is no given). Armah should probably not be getting comfortable.

I personally don't see Hood as much of a player at the NFL level, but I kind of view CAP the same way, so I agree that makes them pretty similar and CAP pretty expendable. With CMC and Anderson, I view the rest of the guys just fighting for a spot on the roster.

Hurney catering to local players again. We need a safety. Why bring this guy in right after signing CJ when we have three other RB on the roster and still NO SAFETY

because he was available and CAP is still an unkown...

People should let go of the safety thing because it will most likely not happen. There are 2 vet safeties and 1 rookie on the roster. After the draft Marty has said there is only so much he can do with the money he has now and safety was not at the top of the priority list unless something to good to pass up falls into their lap. Adding a vet RB, a young RB, back up QB, (and one other spot that I forget) were ahead of a safety need and that is what he appears to be doing. They obviously feel ok with what they have at the safety position (at this point) but would upgrade if the right opportunity presents itself.

But yes, it's not surprising they signed Hood because Marty has had a man crush on him since getting to know him during his high school days.

reality says CAP is in trouble and Hood is the type runner we want and is worth taking a chance on...its not about a college team it's about under performing depth at the RB position...who knows what happened with Hood at Oakland ? I know he will come here and give all he has to make this team and that's all we can ask for...I would have the same attitude towards a pirate or a woofie who comes to our team...

It's odd how we have generally devalued safety as a position in recent years. There are definitely some good safeties available now but I guess we(and it seems like most teams) aren't willing to pay much to get them.

I wish I knew why that was.

Tre Boston has touched on it a couple times. The Panthers defensively (like many other teams) rely on their front 7 to apply enough pressure to make the secondary "less vulnerable". Most teams build from the front to the back on defense based on that philosophy which leaves the safety as the least valuable position. I guess you could say safety is merely a safety valve should the rest of the defense not do it's job.

I think we're done at RB with the Hood signing. I can see us making a run at another safety. It's all about putting your best foot forward. We can't take a break in the NFCS. Shepard's money can and will be reappropriated if I had to bet.
