2010 Chargers vs. 2018 Panthers

RBs

Chargers: Tolbert, Matthews and Sproles

Carolina: Anderson, CAP and CMC

In 2010 Chargers had #1 offense in the NFL.  Averaging 28 points per game. Yet, not a single receiver even sniffed 800 receiving yards but Chargers had almost 5,000 passing yards.  WRs averaged 18 yards per reception and receiving core consisted of Floyd, Jackson, Ajiratutu, Naanee,  Crayton and Davis.  Also, #2 TE was Randy McMichal.

Three RBs combined for almost 1,700 rushing yards and almost 900 yards receiving.  Tolbert and Matthews split carries almost 55-45 that means CAP will have a ton of opportunities.  Sproles barely rushed but had a ton of receiving yards.  Interesting facts...  Phillip Rivers had 29 rushing attempts.  He was also sacked 38 times.

Yes, that’s the year Chargers had 1 offense and 1 defense and they missed the playoffs.  Expect Rivera to heavily focus on D and let Norv completely run the offense.

Also, don’t be surprised to see some 3-4 packages during blitzes.  Especially with LBs we drafted in later rounds.

that was a fun Chargers team. unless you were a degenerate gambler...

On D, they blitz a lot and caused a ton of turnovers and offense was just fast.  They used 2 RBs with Sproles...  and 2 TE sets.  Was very unpredictable offense.  They were top 5 offense in 3rd conversion.  Just hard to plan against.  They hit you short and they hit you long.

CMC will be the feature back, C.J will play the Tolbert role, and Fozzy will be the spoils back. Facts are facts and people will bitch about CAP not getting starts but the coaches know he isn't that good.

CAP is actually a really good player don’t sleep on him this year. Last year he got the ball on limit opportunities and showed amazing BC vision, speed, and power at those times. Fozzy would likely become just a camp body and CMC,CJ, CAP, and Armah will make the team.

I think CMC and Samuel will flourish in this offense. Samuel is getting overshadowed by Moore and Smith, but I think his skillset is so flexible in Norv's system. He can carve out a niche between Olsen, Funchess and CMC, while Moore gets attention and also kill a defense in motion and out of the backfield. I think he is more of Percy Harvin for Norv than Moore....with Moore being more Smitty/Diggs.

IMO, Moore is a WR. Whereas, Samuel is more a Swiss Army Knife.

Funch is a WR, Moore is a WR, Smith is a WR, and Wright is a WR.

That leaves CmC, Samuel, and maybe Byrd as that gadget guy. With CmC being in the RB mix.

That is a good mix of talent running around a Defensive Backfield. Then throw in Olsen, CJ, and maybe even Thomas. (Is that right?) And man, that is some talent.
