Does everyone forget that Oher going down with a career ending concussion was the reason that we were screwed at LT?

DG found a good value, and player in Oher, but injuries happen...just not normally career ending.

I’ve seen you call Otah a bust due to him not being on the field much after his first season. Would you say that was a good pick, and injuries happen?

If Otah was a bust of a pick, then Oher was a bust of a free agent pick up.

This is where I'm at with the constant Kalil panty wadding.

We have a franchise QB, had the best GCG combo in the league, a HOF level TE, two 1st round running backs, while not the best receiving staff in the league, it did boats a 1st and 2nd round draft pick.

If we can't figure out how to scheme around an average to below average T, then we need a new offensive coordinator.

Scheme can win you a couple games but playoffs and superbowl are a different story. Especially if teams absolutely know who the weak link is.

You can expect him to keep getting abused like cam jordan did him when it matters the most.

Let me also say i dont know why people are so confident in Norv. The big reason why it didnt work in Minnesota because teddy kept getting killed because Norv couldn't scheme around that terrible offensive line they had at the time and he ended up walking way from his duties So i dont know why people automatically expect a difference. While he is a upgrade over shula, I am still taking a wait and see approach on Norv.

especially considering our skill personnel do not match a prototypical norv tuner offense either. praying that he is smart enough not to jam a square peg through a small circle.

No, it was a OK pick, but giving up the next years 1st to get him was a terrible move.

And no, Oher was not a bust of a FA pickup. 2 year 7M for a starting LT that we rode to a SB berth.

Yeah but that isn't an excuse to hamper us with a horrific player for 3-4 seasons. Frankly, Matt Kalil was pretty close to the worst option available. Kalil was a legit dumpster dive, a deep one at that, and he didn't pay him like a dumpster dive option. No question the Oher injury had an impact but remember that Oher was out since the third week of the 2016, so Gettleman had to at least consider that after missing almost the entire year and not being able to clear concussion protocol, it wasn't a given he would be able to come back. He had plenty of time to prepare a plan that offseason, he just made a pretty terrible decision, IMO. And if we didn't even have another honest option for LT on the roster to fill in, that also has to fall on DG. He built it.

I can't say this enough, I was not a fan of the Kalil signing or price tag.

However, to completely blame DG for not have a LT is a little short sighted.  We did have a good LT, we just lost him to a very unfortunate situation.

Whit would have been a better signing, but from what I remember, he wanted to play on the west coast...can't recall if that's accurate, but for some reason it's stuck in my head.

Meh, Otah was apart of a line that helped produce 2 1000 yard rushers and hid us from having to rely on Jake, atleast, up until that game against the Cards. While I don’t think it was a great move, I think had it worked out not too many would’ve been upset about the move.

Oh well, injuries happen.

in 2017 4 out of our 5 linemen had at least one career all pro or pro bowl by season's end.  if you can't scheme around a poo left tackle with that then you need to be blaming the coaches.

5 of 5*...that same “poo left tackle” did make a Pro Bowl his rookie year.

True especially if he is trying to run an Air Coryell system or any system with long developing routes.

That poo does not work with a terrible oline and slow ass wr.

The most successful offenses like that had fast wr like Issac Bruce/Tory Holt on the outside and elite olines.(1999 Rams)

Lattimore and M.Thomas from the Saints are the only NFC South players on the top 100 so far (#82 and #81)

Who do you guys predict will be on the list from the Panthers?

Cam:  pretty much has to be. Not a great passing season but he lead his team in rushing and posted the highest rushing total of his career.  My guess is #50 or so.

Luke : Had a down season but so did the entire defense, still had 3 picks and a fumble recovery defensive touchdown to go along with 70+ tackles and 50+ assists on tackles , with 1.5 sacks is still a very respectable season overall. He should be our highest ranked player like usual (with the exception of 2015 of course) . So my guess is #15

I dont think any of our other players will be on the top 100. Maybe Peppers because he got 11 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles at age 37 is rediculous. If hes on the list my guess is #72

Its odd that we went 11-5 by we might only have 2 players on the top 100 . CMC and Funchess were incredibly important to us team wise but I doubt they'll leave much of an impression league wide to be on the top 100. None of our secondary from last season deserve to be on the list, so I'd be okay with just Luke and Peppers from the D.

Peppers and Short will make the list and probably pretty soon. Trai Turner also will probably make the list and there's a chance Funchess and CMC do too.

    • yeah. winter backpacking trips were the most miserable and amazing experiences. same with the coldest and snowiest hunting  experiences. i love being in it. makes for incredible memories. the worse it was, the more i ended up loving it. made the greatest memories.  i just want to get out of it afterwards.
    • I forgot about Jackson...definitely elite.  The sad part of your list is that 2 of them were 'there for the taking for the Panthers'.  Rumor has it that Hurney loved Herbert and was vetoed on trying to trade up.  And rumor has it that Frank & McCown wanted Stroud.  I believe both rumors.
    • I went on a solo elk hunt in the Flat Tops. It was awesomely miserable. LOL It was a late season hunt, I think third season and it was forecasted to snap off cold with highs in the upper thirties and lows in the single digits. fug it, I'm going anyway. They were wrong. The highs were in the low 20s and the lows were in the negative teens. I shivered so hard the first night I thought my teeth were going to break. It was the only time I've ever been legit concerned that I might be in trouble. Crawled out of my sleeping bag and got a fire started and suffered through the night bundled up next to the fire. I slept the next two nights literally wearing every stitch of clothing I'd brought with Nalgenes full of near boiling water in the bottom of my sleeping bag. That was the only way to have non-frozen water in the morning anyway. There was about a foot of snow on the ground and the melt/freeze crust was almost enough to support your weight but you'd go crashing through just as you went or make your step. It was exhausting travel and every step sounded like a rifle shot. Hunting was basically impossible. I never saw an elk in those four days, only saw 5-6 deer. LOL It was brutal but I loved it. Absolutely beautiful country that is never been to before and haven't been back since. I needed that four day complete break from society fighting for my life against the elements. I'm weird like that.
