I Need New Headphones: Help!

I'm looking to upgrade from Apple ear buds. I want a stereo type of headset, and a good set. 

 

I love listening to Tool and System of a down, and I love to hear the loud and powerful aspects of their music. I want a pair that can handle the base drops and play it loud and clear as well as blow my head off 

 

my price limit is $300. Thats my max. I really don't wana go there but will if it makes a difference. 

 

What should I look at? 

Beats?

Bose?

 

 

How much do wireless ones cost? I guess I could look that up myself. Is there any downside to wireless ones?

 

IDC about being a cool kid, and I don't care about name brand this or that. Im not going to be walking down the street to them. I just want the best listening experience within my price range.

 

If you have any headphones that work just as good but are much cheaper than $300, then please drop em here. Hell, even like $50 ones. I want to weigh my options between best bang for my buck, and the best experience possible...

What source are you using to power them? A phone/mp3 player? Bose and Beats are way overpriced so unless you want a noise-cancelling headphone (Bose's is still arguably the best out there for this) then don't bother with them. Personally, I listen to similar music and am really pleased with my Audio Technica ATH-M50x. This is a rather polarizing headphone among headphone aficionados but the reviews are very good and they offer good bass performance and clarity while being pretty comfortable to wear. Tons of reviews out there and you can get them fairly cheap, especially compared to their typical MSRP.

If you're going to be listening to them indoors and not worried about bothering anyone else with them then you could consider some open-back headphones, which will generally offer a little better soundstage imaging. Otherwise stick to closed-back. Also, unless you have a headphone amplifier stick to headphones with impedance of 50 ohms or lower; for example, the Beyerdynamic DT770s in 32 ohm would work fine but the 80 ohm, 250, or 600 ohm would not work well with a typical phone or mp3 player.

my only concern with them is would it sound shitty with metal?

 

theres a lot of high pitched past paced stuff in my music. I really do need a pair that can do both

most consumer critic reviews say that they handle music that emphasizes clarity over hardness the best. i tend to agree. someone who listens to eric clapton or michael mcdonald will enjoy them very much. if you’re into something more bassy, gritty, or otherwise harder, you might want to look into a different set. i listen to a lot of dnb and the bose does not handle heavy rapid bass very well.

i don’t own a pair of skull candy headphones, but i personally used a pair just like that, and even though they are not noise canceling, they beat the bose in my book when it comes to many different genres. also they’re like half the price.

Skull crushers are awful. I returned them. Get these. Best pair I've ever owned. Great for all music and I also do sound editing.

Nice. Ive had a few recomendations for Sennheiser on reddit.  So you recomend open back? 

 

Does Sennheiser have wireless ones?

I don't recommend them as walk around headphones because of the long cord and need for an adapter. When you're at home an open back is fine and you get a cleaner sound. If you're looking for a walk around pair make sure they're closed back and wireless. I don't personally have a wireless pair to endorse since I use Beats for the gym and the sound isn't great. But Sennheiser is an excellent brand. Keep up the research and good luck.

Id eventually love to own a few different pair to have variety and to use a set for whatever desired listening expirience I want in that moment

 

for now, Im pretty sure I am going to go with a wireless closed back settup. Several really good brands recommended. I have time to figure it out though. So far at least I know which ones to cut off my list. Last thing I wana do is buy an expensive pair and be like “wtf” when I go to listen to my stuff. 

 Im gunna buy one after my last exam on Thursday as a reward for slugging through Medsurg /OB/PEDs.  That poo sucked. It would take a 28-3 kind of collapse for me to fug it up though. 

 

One day I hope to be able to have a jacked system in my car, a jacked system in my man cave, and a few different pairs of jacked headphones for different uses, kind of like if i had several sports cars or trucks as a rich mother fuger

 

in due time. Ive spent so much time listening to music over the past few years its time for an upgrade. Its definitely enhanced my life and pulled me through some pretty grueling times and most importanly helped me learn from those times. Im sick of having to use a casset adapter for my 96 ford ranger and using apple earbuds that hurt the fug out of earholes and give me headaches. 

 

First step in my wishlist is just getting a nice, balanced set that can hit the highs and blast the lows that I can take around with me in public or wear around the house..

I have these and love them.  The noise cancelling for traveling is awesome.

I'm no audiophile, but they sound pretty good to me.
