You should’ve highlighted “smart” in your reply, that was his point.

Well he added in well spoken like it was a positive to his overall statement smart guy... So you telling me after smart everything else was a throw away...

Why would you consider the term; well spoken an insult? In his presser he came across as a smart well spoken young man, did he not?

I feel like smart teams will hurry up their offense and beat our matchups with unpredictable playcalling.

They will, but it hurts them too. I have had the same concern.  However, note the focus on versatility in the draft--Gaulden can play CB, S, Nickel---Jackson can play inside or outside and can lock up on a WR in man coverage. Haynes can play DE or OLB,

I think  we are designing a defense that can stay on  the field and  assume  multiple roles.  That sure explains to me why we drafted who we drafted.

No one will ever beat Brees with coverage.

You slow him down with pressure and then beat the hell out of the Saints defense.

Facial pressure and you move him off his spot.

See that right there is what this franchise needs to get away from. While it's something nice if a guy is a"well spoken"it should not have any bearing on your opinion on him as a football player. I think a lot of people love that whole idea about the panthers and how we only draft good ole boys. I think that way of thinking has hindered this franchise since inception. Football players are people and are flawed like the rest of us. I think looking for well spoken guys is why we passed on players like Guice and Harrison and ended up with Gaulden.

Missing the point that was trying to be made w/this post.....the "smart" attribute is what the focus should be on here...being intelligent can make a huge difference in whether or not he's a good football player.

Yeh,.....we should look for dumb players instead of smart ones.

They are drafted to LEAD,... not to READ

Cancel all community events, tell them to avoid time with the media no matter what they are fined,...

just tell them tackle the black and gold uniforms,...

I disagree. Neither pressure or coverage can stop Brees alone. He gets the ball out to fast if you rush with bad coverage(see all 3 games we played last year). He also can find open guys with good coverage and bad rush(see games against top secondarys). You need to be good at both to stop him.

A person is only as smart as their ability to translate their thoughts into words. One's ability to effect a malleable or abstract idea into language is surely our best way of gauging such intelligence.

That need would vary from position to position.

I understand the picks, but I still hope the new owner replaces Hurney with someone who will draft players that are just good all around and aren't role-players.

You can have all the talent in the world but if each player doesn't play his role any defense will suck.  Everyone wanted Harrison but from what I have read he was limited.

These players we selected fit a role that we need in our defense.  You don't draft the name you draft a player with a certain skill set you need.  We didn't draft those players because Hurney didn't know what he was doing.  We drafted him because they the role in our defense better.

Get over being butthurt because we did draft the players you spent 5 minutes evaluating and decided they are better for us than who we selected.

It will take time to see how these selections pan out. One thing to keep in mind is that despite the one blogger who raved about Oliver he still the 8th CB taken.  NFL scouts certainly viewed him differently. We weren't the only team who valued him lower than the blog scout. Lets be honest. That one guy is the reason everyone knows Oliver's name so well.
