Should we go after Dez?

Look..... I'm not advocating a big deal, and I don't really want him long term anyways, but........

hes looking for a 1 year prove it deal anyways, don't think money is his goal here.  He'd give us a veteran presence with our WRs (then cut Torrey) and I think he'd personally get along with Cam well and we have a strong group of leaders to keep him in check.

oh..... and we open the season agains Dallas.... I think that would be a big motivating factor for him, like with AP last year going to NO who opened the season against the Vikings.

Have him for the year while our WRs gain some more experience and then let him go on his way, think he'd be much better in that role for us than Torrey

I can actually say that the Panthers are set at WR. They just need to groom the talent that they have. Getting Dez limits the opportunities for Moore and Funchess.

Does it?

lots of teams have had 3 successful WRs, and it's not like any of them are proven talents yet.

i had no interest in him at first, but the longer he goes unsigned I think the possibility is there as I think we'd be a great situation for him to prove himself and get a bigger deal from someone else next year.

That can also backfire because since he is on a one year prove it deal, he will want targets so he can get the big contract in the off-season. Cam plays his best when he can just spread the ball and not worry who gets targets.

So sign Dez Bryant, a slow receiver with a bad attitude and depeciating skills, and an odd fit for our scheme, for what will likely be a 7-10 million dollar salary, then cut Torrey Smith, a receiver with speed, is a good locker room guy, and fits our system and we have for relatively cheap at 5 million? Hmm....

Here’s the thing tho...we have the option of using the remaining cap on a Safety or a complimentary RB...or a WR in ur eyes...I think off need alone, WR just isn’t a priority.

Plus with Samuel getting hurt last year, we need room to develop both him AND DJ. We already have Funchess and Smith. Let’s say we cut Smith, well there goes our deep threat cuz we know Dez isn’t one. If he was, than I think you could make a much better argument. Adding Dez creates a even bigger log jam.

You also are assuming he’d sign a cheap one year prove it deal. I’m assuming he would not. If it’s a one year deal, I’m assuming at least $7mill which we just can’t  afford to allocate to the WR spot.

Here's the view on him from Walterfootball.com-

"Bryant is a declining player approaching 30 (in November) who struggles to separate. He has not adjusted his game to compensate for this, and he'll need to if he wants to keep playing beyond two more seasons. He's no longer a No. 1 receiver, but perhaps Dallas cutting him will serve as motivation."

Do we need a guy who can no longer excel at what he's good at, and won't adjust. Don't think so.
