Moore will start outside opposite Funchess. No doubt about it. Yeah he'll get snaps in the slot but we didn't draft him as the first WR off the board to only play the slot. He should immediately become at least Cam's 3rd target behind Greg and Funch, probably jump Funch at some point too. McC's role in the passing game may be dialed back a little so he can carry the load as a runner.

I know for a fact we'll be massively disappointed if we try and put him outside his rookie year.

He needs to start off as a slot guy. That's the perfect spot for his short/intermediate strengths for now.

Let's discuss because with training camp a little coaching by start of the season he IMO can handle Jordan Lewis from Dallas week one, week two Robert A. please or maybe Oliver if he's in by week 2 vs the DJ please give me DJ. Week 3 Will Jack or Dennard DJ again---Week four Eli A/Teddy (fast) Williams is Eli backup man please I think you're underestimating Moore's ability he may not be perfect but he's gonna catch curl routes and watch how hard it is for some of these DBs to tackle him. Before Smitty was a master with his routes WE use to just get him the balk and he dominated his man that's what we're looking for. We'll polish his technique but there's a reason all we keep hearing is he can dominate in all factors of the route tree and was rated TOP wr the next step is up to us and his work ethic.

No doubt about also I like that if we don't give CMC more carries we're holding him back not pound it straight up the middle just plenty of rushes his goal imo is to show he can do it and with this off season he'll be ready. Less catches more rushes we have enough receiving options let CMC run he's earned it.

No, they are heavily used because they get open and have solid hands. Even if Moore is great (I hope he is) those two will get a lot of use again this year.

Dog, you played yourself.

As much as I have heard how old and slow Torrey Smith is...he's only been in the league half as long as Peppers.  Either we need a new definition of "old" or Peppers is just a complete freak of nature. I'm optimistic that Torrey Smith will help this team out more than people know or realize.  Wait and see I guess....and yes, Pep is a freak of nature.

no comment on smith, but that’s bc peppers is a freak athlete you just don’t come across very often and he has taken care of his body over the years. also, i don’t recall him ever having a major injury he needed to be put on IR for.

Yeh, when did 28 get OLD. People are acting like he’s Terrell Owens or something.

so Cams old?

Ted Ginn is 33,  Torey Smtih is 29.   I know what a difference Ted Ginn made to our offense at age 30.

The thing is, Torrey Smith can only play the one position. So regardless of how you view DJ’s strengths at the moment he is almost forced to the slot.

I think I’d rather him fully concentrate on just learning the slot/route tree for the time being. But Torrey really doesn’t bring much other than deep speed so even with DJ’s limited route tree he may already bring more than Torrey does.

I think you’re right about McCaffery though. Maybe DJ was picked over Ridley for that reason too. DJ can do a lot of the work we asked Caff to do when he wasn’t running the ball.

This offense will really rely on Torrey being able to be a deep threat and Funchess continuing to progress... lots of “ifs” imo. Lots of moving parts too, I really do hope Norv knows what he’s doing

According to Joe Person's first depth chart, he has the pecking order at...

WR1: Funchess,  Moore

WR2: Smith,  Samuel

Slot: Moore,  Wright

I don't know about you guys, but I see this as a problem.  Yes, initially we see Moore as the slot guy, even though we just signed Jarius Wright.  Personally, I think his talent and rookie lack of film will be wasted if we relegate him to slot guy.  I personally think we should give him a crack at starting at 1 or 2, and have Torrey used for certain deep threat plays.  I know Camp and post June 1st cuts are still to come, but right now I am worried Funchess might get in the way of some of our talent at the position, similar to Kelvin.

Thoughts?

Hopefully not. Other wise Cam will go back to forcing passes into double coverage.

If nothing is there he needs to keep checking down to McCaffrey/Fozzy.

    • Just had Thanksgiving meal with a couple dozen family and friends. I lucked out and got one of the smoked turkey legs. Stuffing, mashed taters and gravy, green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole, kale, smoked ham, chicken and rice, corn, lima beans, cranberry sauce, and great people. My brother got his guitar out and we got to singing. Lots of actual conversations with people I hardly  ever get to see, haven't seen in a while, or who I never met before. Just a great moment to remember.
    • 3-8 would be a higher win percentage than 3-9
    • Same... With the personnel the Niners had, that defense could have been historically good in the right hands. Under Wilks they were certainly good, they didn't quite rise to that level. Honestly, I see Wilks kinda like I see Rivera: fantastic person, decent head coach. Skill wise, phenomenal DB coach, so-so DC. His greatest strength is his leadership. Hard to find many better in that department. In the Xs and Os / execution area though, not as good. Bottom Line: Wilks is the sort of coach that needs a staff that excels in those aspects of the game where he's weaker. But, like Rivera, I don't know that he scouts assistants very well. That as much as anything might be why he's not in the NFL now.
