What if Marty Hurney

No, he must go regardless.  If this draft pans out so be it.  Good for us because he owes the team one great draft.   Marty must go.

The way this entire offseason has been handled as he still tries to overpay an aging vet, make a splash in bringing in a position player that wasn't needed, fumbling on the Breeland signing then doing nothing after, and then still having the veteran kissass mentality (shepherd on the team, kalil not approached for paycut). Gettleman would have cut Shepherd immediately. That's why Gettleman doesn't fit JR's old ass mentality that Hurney replicates. We need a young front office, not this old ass conservative family mentality.

I hope he had a good draft, and I hope we have a good season, but it might be that neither one matters.

Fair or not, Marty Hurney is very closely associated with Jerry Richardson. The league wants the stink of Richardson to go away. You can say that doesn't apply to Hurney, but I'd point out two things.

One, the accuser's letter said that the higher-ups in the building were fully aware of what was going on. Pair that together with Hurney's close loyalty to Richardson and it doesn't look good. Marty has, in fact, publicly stated that he didn't believe anything of that sort was going on. That, in and of itself probably doesn't help his case.

Two, the league already once suggested that the Panthers move on from Marty Hurney. Yes, that came at a time when he was accused of something from which he has since been cleared, but it also came at a time when the investigation was still ongoing. The league didn't care.

There's definitely a possibility that arrangements will be made for the accuser (and the other accusers) to tell their story, and that likely leads to a housecleaning. It's also possible that they might not get to tell their story. Oddly enough, that probably also leads to a housecleaning as a way of getting rid of anybody who might have been in on it.

Either way, not good for Hurney.

Given that Richardson had a racist allegation along with the sexual harassment issues, I wouldn't be surprised if the league nudged the Panthers toward hiring a minority GM. It's possible we could revisit the prior candidates or bring in others. There are definitely quality candidates available.

Bottom Line: It's hard to imagine Marty survives the ownership change. And even if he's not fired immediately, I can't imagine he's got more than one season.

I think it was 5 or 6, totally turned them down and waited for JR to come back to him.

That also gave him time to take multiple classes on personnel evaluation and attend a seminar on how to listen to your scouts.

Nothing gives you sticking power like success. If we get another winning season, a deep run into the playoffs and maybe even a championship out of this, then Marty's job is as secure as anyone's in this league.

If we suddenly tank... well, that gets people fired when there is a steady ownership situation.

In truth, no one is going to walk in and just clean house on a multi-billion organization when the organization is still growing steadily and posting winning seasons. The broken part of the organization, at least publicly, was at the top while the actual team part seems to be going well. If it were my money, I sure wouldn't want to risk killing that off as I rolled into town. Just ask the Browns and the 49ers how those regime changes went.
