Mel Kipers Panthers Draft Grade (ESPN Insider)

Gettleman had a truly legendary year in 2013 with the draft and FA with no money to spend. It will be hard for anyone to ever top what he did that year.

I will forever be grateful for that. But in hindsight, his drafting and decision making went down from there and his ego went up leading to some dumb decisions.

I will still put his tenure at above-average bc he had success on the field and he did clean up the salary cap.

But he was not some mythical being. He had his flaws just like Hurney does

Coleman was decent in 2016 also but you are right that he only looked like a Pro Bowler when he had an All-Pro beside him.

Coleman certainly wasn't the only problem in the secondary last year, but he was a major liability.

I like Coleman as a person, but he got beat over the top more often that not last year.

The Julio drop play epitomized his play last year even though he got lucky on that one particular play

Coleman was a 7th round pick who saw 17 safeties get picked before his name was called. When he arrived in Charlotte it was more 'who's he?' than 'wow, look who we got!'. I'd say he was an over achiever who turned out to be a solid player for us. If Gaulden ends up getting rated as the 7th highest overall safety by PFF as Coleman did in '15, then I'll be happy, even if he was a reach on draft day.

Mel Kiper is a joke who NFL GMs laugh at. Grading an NFL Draft before a player has even played a snap is stupid. It’s wishful thinking at best. It takes years to see how well the draft played out. A rookie can have a pro bowl rookie season and end up doing nothing the rest of his career while a player can take years to develop into a multi pro bowl player.

You either trust our scouting department or not, that shapes how you feel about this draft.

WR- we got our #1 target

CB- we likely got our 4-5th target

FS- taken ahead of Harrison, so likely our #3 target.

TE- I’ve seen rated as high as #3 or 4.

Also added depth at LB.

Sure, we didn’t get a new RB2 or QB2, but given how many needs we had, if our scouting department was on, we have from this draft the #1 WR, #4 CB, #3 FS, and #4 TE.

Wtf he had Gaulden rated as a 6th round talent?!

Most of the grades are based off of perceived value.  Gaulden is probably are biggest reach of the night based on media player grades.  We have no idea what other teams thought.

Moore was good value.  A lot of people thought he would be gone by 24.

Jackson was good value.  Some had him as a top 5 corner.

Gaulden could be a reach :)

Thomas was great value.  I thought he would go early to mid 3rd.

Once you get past the 4th round it becomes harder to actually call a guy a reach.  I don' t think there is much difference in 5th, 6th, 7th, and UDFAs, its really in the eye of the beholder.  One teams 5th could easily be another teams 7th.

A lot of those GMs are no longer GMs.  Kiper makes good money to talk about the draft.  We are all doing it for free.  Sounds pretty smart to me.

Every site I’ve read so far has loved our draft. Maybe I’m missing something here, but I just don’t see it. I didn’t think our draft was bad, but I didn’t think it was great either. Well, the critics know more than I do, so if they like it, I’m good with it.

That’s not always a good thing.

The draft was ok. I liked the 1st 2 picks (would have preferred Oliver, but Jackson was my 1b). Don't like the Gaulden pick, but didn't really like any of the safeties in the draft after Fitzpatrick and James.

My biggest gripe with the draft is not drafting OL. That left side of the o-line is still really bad and has me afraid for Cam's health and our run game.

All the Gettlemaniacs are freaking out. They spent the whole draft careening around in a rage bender, livid and incredulous about how obviously horrible all of Hurney's picks were.

"I'VE NEVER EVEN HEARD OF THIS GUY!!! HE'S TERRIBLE!!!"

"DAVE WOULD HAVE GOT MINKAH FITZPATRICK IN THE FOURTH, WHAT THE HELL IS THIS IDIOT HURNEY DOING?!?"

Now they're seeing that more clear-eyed and objective people around the league unanimously feel that this was a brilliant draft. And it hurts them. It really hurts them.

Im a gettleman guy

i was shitting on thise rage poaters too

dont lump gettleman guys in with tards who think they know anything as a fan with limited recources such as espn.com and youtube.
