Happy Panthers, Sad Panthers

I think it is interesting (possibly in terms of the cap) to figure which Panthers were elated with the first three picks and which Panthers were put on notice.

Happy Panthers

  • Artis-Payne:  No "between the tackles" RB so far means his chances of being that guy increased.
  • Moton, Silatolu:  No early-round offensive guard means the answer is probably on the roster, at least for 2018.
  • Larsen: So far, he is the backup and the best way for him to get a contract next year is to stay that way.
  • M. Kalil: Because he makes nearly a million a game and has a hot wife--and he sucks and they can't afford to replace him.

Sad Panthers

  • WRs Sheperd, Byrd:  Moore is less for these two players.  Sheperd's contract makes his departure obvious.
  • Nickel Munnerlyn:  First he had to worry about Corn, now he gets Jackson and Gaulden.  All SEC rivals too.  Ouch. Munnerlyn could be traded.
  • CBs Elder and Seymour:  At the end of March, Elder had his eye set on Worley's old job.  At the end of April, he has to wonder about his own. He has been rehabbing and could be a part of the defensive backfield, just not going to be as easy as he thought http://www.panthers.com/news/article-2/Corn-Elder-right-on-schedule-for-spring-comeback/53705b45-8a95-466c-a82c-3d2ccb4a10bf  Seymour has to know that his job is his to lose because I think he lost it.  I expect that he will be waived.
  • S D. Cox:  For those of you who do not know Cox, it is because we moved him from the waiver wire to IR.  He was the backup S.  Then we bring in Searcy and draft Gaulden.  Where does that leave Cox?  (I suspect that Searcy will move to SS by next year when Adams leaves and Cox will have a chance to compete if still on the roster.)
  • M. Kalil:  Yes, he should be happy and sad.  Gettlemen is gone.  Moton wants to see the field. If they draft a T or G in the fourth, that means his days are numbered and he will be benched and then cut when we can cut him.

I think Hall, Cox, and maybe Obada should be happy at the moment.

As a matter of fact, I was thinking of starting a thread about it, but I think that maybe some people are underestimating some of these guys. Notwithstanding who we pick today, it looks like a lot of these downplayed guys being developed behind the curtain (so to speak), will get their opportunity to seize jobs if nothing else.

I think Moton stays at OG ...so Kalil has not real pressure right now...

A 4th rounder un seats a starter? Hahahaha

anyone today is a project

I don't believe anyone said that a "starter's" job is in jeopardy over anyone drafted today. But even if we do have a "starter" penciled in, we can still upgrade depth which of course can lead to a starter's role in the future. Moreover, this thread was referring to mostly guys who may have a better chance of landing an important role---not necessarily a starting role, but important nonetheless---due to what did or did not happen on day one and two (where a starter or presumed starter can definitely be unseated).
